Comments about MSR Sweetwater Micro-Filtration System: I purchased the MSR Sweetwater filter because my dad used a Sweetwater filter when we hiked back in the 90's. That filter saw some serious trail time and purifying water is not a place to cut costs.

Comments about MSR Sweetwater Micro-Filtration System: Had an original version fifteen years ago and loved it. New version works the same. Simple, reliable, and serviceable for under a hundred bucks. Cannot be beat at this price. Do yourself a big favor, and get the separate pre-Filter for another 20 bones. Sooo worth it. I've filtered from stock tanks, turbid creeks, and flowing rivers with nothing but success.

Comments about MSR Sweetwater Micro-Filtration System: This a no frills water filtering pump. It worked well for the few days I used it. Never got stiff and I could fill the 1L bottles at a good clip. It comes with a nice nalgene wide mouth cap adapter. Yes it could be smaller and lighter but it works well. Super easy to use.

Hi, I'm new to backpacking and need a water system. I do not understand the differences between the "Sweetwater" and the "Miniworks EX". Both seem similar and the same price. The sweet water is smaller and lighter than the MSR. The sweet water filler has a bottle attachment at the end of a hose. The Miniworks attaches directly to the top of a water bottle. Miniworks weighs 16.3 oz, while the sweet water weighs 11 oz.Answered on 11/10/2011 by Steve from Campmor
