Since the resolution is 1:100000 the maps would not be useful for trail work. The best maps for the Appalachian Trail are from the Appalachian Trail Conference. Also beware that a lot of the Appalachian Trail is under thick forest canopy which will reduce effective GPS signals.Answered on 7/8/2011 by Steve from Campmor
