This is a great combination that should fair well for anyone looking for a compact, easy to carry, freshwater gamefish rig. The rod itself is a bit bulky, in my opinion, but my son just loved it. So instead of me using it, well I think you guessed the end of this story. The reel is quite good, casting trigger is another reason my son "had" to have this. I think there would be plenty of room for more tackle within the case due to the thick foam, cut out a deeper larger rectangle and easily fit a smaller 2 sided Plano in there with no problem.

Overall though, this is a pretty darned good rig for the price, and even though it's not what I was looking for, it definitely fits the bill for those looking for a larger rod and reel combination for live bait presentations.

This is a decent set-up. I got it for an 8 day trip to the boundry waters. I ended up ditching the case, and putting the rod in a small plastic tube, it was much lighter, and easy to carry. I also left the reel at home and went with a lighter weight compact reel. all in all, it is a nice set-up, and is much nicer than those telescoping types. the largest disadvantage, in order to get is small enough to pack, I ended up taking the reel off and the rod completly apart. that meant every time I wanted to use it, I had to re thread and re-tie, not a major concern, but a slight inconvenience.

Perhaps a slightly larger trans box for more tackle. There seems to be enough room without increasing case size.
