Excellent backpack cover. Well constructed, quality materials fits well on a normal sized daypack used for commuting and it hugs the pack without slipping.

Does not stay in place in some backpacks

Comments about Equinox Day Pack and Day & 1/2 Pack Rain Cover (Small):

Does not stay in place in backpacks with shoulder straps that are attached to the top of the pack. Solved the problem by sewing on each side a one-inch wide band with Velcro closure to hold in place the upper part of the rain cover ($5 for the strap and another $5 at the neighborhood seamstress to do the job -- an added expense that approximately doubled the cost of item.

Comments about Equinox Day Pack and Day & 1/2 Pack Rain Cover (Small):

Since my pack is narrow towards the top...the cover had no way to secure itself to my pack. I had a web strap sewn on each side of the cover about 3" down from the top - the strap wraps around my pack and each end is secured to each other with a belt type clip. I also had the top of the cover 'tucked' and sewn to narrow up the top a bit. With the modifications the cover works excellent and provides my pack protection from the elements.

Comments about Equinox Day Pack and Day & 1/2 Pack Rain Cover (Small):

The cover slips off the bottom of a computer backpack because there is no feature on the backpack for the cover to wrap around or grip on. It's a mismatch for this application.

Comments about Equinox Day Pack and Day & 1/2 Pack Rain Cover (Small):

I have a Kelty redtail day pack and it will not stay on when there is wind. I had to engineer some bungy cords to keep the top part in place. Otherwise it will slip off. I would recommend trying another brand or just use a trash bag if it rains.

I use this to cover my motorcycle saddlebags when it's raining. Easy on and off and completely waterproof. I set the shock cord and leave it alone. I find repeated stretching of similar cords results in quick degradation of the elasticity.

          • Q:

I have a Marmot backpack -- 30 liters (1835cu in) -- and assume this is the rain cover I should consider? Any others in this size and/or different colors?

Also, how is this secured onto the pack itself -- is it cinched with a drawstring all the way around it only? Or, are there snaps at the top to secure it to the backpack straps also?

Lastly, does it come with a pouch, or can it be folded up into a sewn-in mesh pouch?

Thank you for your time in answering these questions.

              A:

There is a drawcord on the end of the Equinox Rain Cover that allows to open and close it. This is the proper size for a 30 Liter pack. No storage pouch.

Does this pack have elastic band all around the opening? Why don't you have a real photo of the product instead of the bag it comes in?

Is there a way to attatch this to a school backpack (does not have a raised lip where the shoulder straps meet the backpack on top?

              A:

I think what you are saying is that the shoulder straps meet the top of the pack without there being a top that extends beyond the point your shoulder straps meet the pack. If this is the case then the rain cover would tend to slip off.
