That depends on the water being filtered. If the water is in a tropical location and there is viral contamination. I would recommend getting Emergency Germicidal Drinking Water Tablets for locations where viral contamination of water is a concern.

Regarding the MyBottle Microfilter: No, the Microfilter version uses 0.3 micron glass fiber pleated filtration media and activated carbon for removal of tastes, odors, and chemicals. There is no iodinated resin in the Microfilter. The Purifier version uses iodinated resin.Answered on 8/10/2010 by Betty

The purification component that upgrades this item to a purifier is item 81894 ( Virustat Replacement Cartridge). No priming is necessary and chlorine is not needed.Answered on 7/29/2010 by Betty
