        Comments about Katadyn Hiker MicroFilter:

I've owned this pump for over 10 years (since it was made by Pur) and the design hasn't changed a bit. (I just bought a replacement cartridge.) To me that indicates that the design is so well evolved that it has needed no tweaks in that whole time. The materials in it are also first quality; for example, the hoses on my filter are 10+ years old and show no signs of degredation or breakdown. It's just plain easy to use and works well.

Only method that retrived water from low flowing sources. The AT maps show water sources nearly everywhere...not so since the drought and springs that "were" there might only be a trickle. Could not get a "bottle" full in many locations. Worked great!

we used for a trip in Mexico and Belize to filter tap water that is otherwise not drinkable. It did a nice job and kept us from being sick the whole trip.
Didn't try it for outdoor so can't comment on that though'.

I have a pur water filter with a StopTop Carbon Cartridge that appears to resemble the Katadyn Hiker MicroFilter as it is pictured in the web catalog site Campmor.I bought this filter approx.13-14 years ago and have never used it.Questions:Is it safe to use? How do I get instructions on how to use it(I have apparently lost the users manual)?Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.TK'S in advance.

The pore size is actually 0.3 microns. Giardia is 2 microns. For example, a human hair is 100 microns in width.

I have an older PUR filter and I recently changed the filter element and O-rings, but it still does not suck or pump water through the unit. I can't see any defect or problem, as the unit is ultra simple. The only thing I can think of is replacing the O-ring gaskets again. Any suggestions?

I have the same pump with the same problem. If you open it up and fill it with clean water just before pumping, it might work. It works for me. I think it just has trouble getting started and this helps to prime it.

                            1. The Katadyn Hiker MicroFilter does not have a mesh sleeve that the hiker pro has.
                            2. A filter is included in both units
                            3. A Hiker Pro fits into a hiker.
