Cons Best Uses Comments about Yakima Bow/Stern Tiedown Kit: Much simpler and easier to use than the stock Yakima tie downs which came with the Bowdown kayak rack. Once you used and set he length of them, you can almost leave them alone with a minor loosening and just reapplying them without having to go through with the tying-up the loose ends etc, of course when using the same car/kayak.

The Yakima Bow/Stern Tiedown Kit comes with a bow and stern strap; 2 ratcheting hooks and 2 anchor hooks and 2 lines. What you do is tie a bowline knot through the 2 anchor hooks. Then you feed the line's free end through the ratcheting hooks. Once these tasks are complete, you hook the anchor hook to an anchor point on the frame of the vehicle. You then hook the ratchet hook to the bow or stern straps. Pull the line in the ratchet to draw down the line and tighten.Answered on 7/17/2012 by Steve from Campmor
