Best Uses Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Scout Self Inflating Sleeping Pad with free stuff sac: I wanted a lightweight camp pad, but this is one is very narrow & thin. It did provide a barrier to the cold ground but was so narrow that I could feel the cold as soon as my leg would stray slightly from the pad. It is also very thin so didn't provide a whole lot in the way of cushioning from the hard ground.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Scout Self Inflating Sleeping Pad with free stuff sac: I bought two of these for my kids to use on an early October camping trip. The weather was colder and wetter than expected. Both were very warm and comfortable on these pads. No problems with the sleeping bags sliding on the pads.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Scout Self Inflating Sleeping Pad with free stuff sac: I was worried at first because the material feels very light and flimsy, but it seemed to hold up rather well. I am 6'3" 245# and it was very comfortable after a long day of hiking. I did notice I rolled over about every 2 hours because of pressure points on my hips (not a back sleeper) but I imagine that would be the case of any packable mattress since it happens on a double high air mattress as well. Overall I really enjoyed the comfort it added to my sleeping gear.
Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Scout Self Inflating Sleeping Pad with free stuff sac: We bought the mattresses to sleep on floor at mother in laws. I used many years before while a scout leader. It was really comforable then. Not so anymore. Dissappointed it was not comfortable for the money we paid.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Scout Self Inflating Sleeping Pad with free stuff sac: This pad is easy to pack and takes up a minimal amount of space. It inflates so easily and provides just the right amount of comfort needed for a restful sleep.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Scout Self Inflating Sleeping Pad with free stuff sac: Not a fabric covered pad-rubbery plastic is sticky and uncomfortable. There's a reason this pad is much less expensive than the "traditional" fabric covered thermarests. Spend a little extra and get the non-cheesy version.

No. It inflates on its own. The pad has open-cell foam on the inside and when the valve is open air is sucked in causing the pad to inflate. To get the pad as firm as possible you can blow a few breaths of air in the valve.Q:
what are the dimensions of the different sizes offered?1 answer
A:

Given the high R rating, it looks like it would provide winter warmth, but the write-up suggests otherwise. Would this hold up in the cold (0-30 degree conditions)?1 answer
A:
For 0-35 this pad would be ok, except if sleeping directly on the snow. If sleeping on snow I would use this pad with a Z Lite Sleeping Pad along with the trail scout.
