I got one of these for myself and one for my teenage son. The pad is the perfect size for comfort, warmth, and weight. This pad works perfect as we do car camping and backpacking.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Lite Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

Purchased to use with the Thermarest Alpine Down BLanket and with a hammock. Needed as insulation rather than comfort. Coldest camp so far was 47 degrees and worked fine at that temperature. I've owned Thermarest mattresses before and "Self Inflating" is misleading. If left for a long period of time, they will partially inflate but usually in a hurry to get it inflated so add a few puffs of air. This could damage the mattress since human breath contains water vapor and this water vapor could freeze and damage the mattress. I like the shape and size of this mattress and the price I paid at Campmor.

I used this mat on a backpacking trip with my boys. The mats were very comfortable and packed well. I had some trouble getting the mats into the stuff sac. I figured out that you need to fold the mat in half, roll them up and sit on them while opening the valve. I was used to the original thermarest that didn't fold in half.
The mats kept us all warm and I have no complaints.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Lite Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

Myself and my girlfriend used these sleeping pads while car camping for a few nights. Comfortable. She said she slept better than she had all week. For a full sized pad it packs up nicely. If you follow the first time inflation and storage instructions, it inflates very quickly later. So readily, in fact, that it's hard to deflate without sucking the air out by mouth (rolling the air out just isn't as good.) Kept slipping off with the sleeping bag but show me an air mattress without that problem.

Comments about Therm-A-Rest Thermarest Trail Lite Self Inflating Sleeping Pad:

We have had several Thermarest pads over the years. These new pads are lighter than our older models while keeping the comfort and insulation excellent! They hold up to most of our use, except for our dog's claws! So, we trimmed the claws, and we hope the new pads last the decade plus of our last Thermarests.

Yes, this will stay inflated. It is meant to provide insulation in colder temperatures. It is always helpful to blow a few breaths of air into the valve to make the pad as firm as possible.
