Comments about Park Tools Park Tool PFP-6 Home Mechanic Floor Pump:

I purchased the Park Tools Home pump to replace a pump that is actually still working. For under $30 and made by Park Tools I thought I couldn't go wrong, but I was mistaken.

First night I used it, I put it on a threaded Presta valve and flipped the lever up on the head to lock it on. Pumped up the tube, and then flipped the lever down to unlock and tried to remove it.

It was stuck tight. That's when I realized it didn't have a pressure relief valve that was easy to access, I had to use a tool to get the pressure released.

Unfortunately this did nothing for the stuck stem. I was even able to get a pair of channel locks under the head stem, pushing down on the nut that was threaded onto the Presta valve while my wife pulled up on the pump's head stem with everything she had, but it would not budge.

I finally conceded I would have to rip the tube's valve stem out, which is exactly what happened. I was then able to grab the broken tube stem with the channel locks and pry it free from the UNLOCKED pump head.

I purchased a new tube the next day and related my experience to the local bike shop clerk (because I was asking about smooth valve stems to see if that would help) and I was asked if it was the Park Tools Home pump, which I had not mentioned. I told them it was, and they advised me to steer clear of that particular model as it had lots of issues.

Advice taken, and this one is going back to the retailer.
