Comments about Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Potable Aqua with P.A. Plus:

Have used these pills for over 20 years, all over the world. Extremely reliable (never developed a tummy problem) and easy/convenient to use. Have never bothered with a pump, and as far as the pills versus the alternative of combining two solutions (which is what guide services use) and having to wait 5-10 minutes before being able to add the mixture to the canteen, I prefer the pills because of the time saved when on the move.

To minimize the likelihood of pills sticking together (due to moisture), replace cap on bottle immediately.

I do not see any reasons why you could not use this with your platy bottle. In fact I have seen a number of AT thru hikes with platy bottles using portable Aqua.

          A:

A week is OK. You would not want this to be your total solution for months of water treatment. I would opt for boiling water to purify it as well that way you can reduce the need to chemically treat the water.

1/2 for the purifying tables and 1/2 for the neutralizer. 1 Hour in all.

        • A:

According to the instructions: Wait thirty minutes after adding two iodine tablets to each liter of water. Then, optionally, add two neutralizing tablets per liter and wait five minutes.

However, if the water is especially cold, you might want to exercise caution and wait longer. If you are hiking and the water container is being jostled and bounced with every step, both steps seem to work better as the action breaks up the tablets and mixes everything more thoroughly.

          A:

I let the first pill work for 30 minutes, then either drink (if thirsty) or add the second pill (eliminates the iodine taste) and wait another 30 minutes.
