Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: Haven't tried it out yet but the material isn't as heavy duty as I would have liked. Bag is a little smaller than the one I had before from Gregory. Red color adds visibility.
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: i was simpley replacing the 15 year old bear bags i purchased from you....they got lots of use and work well
Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: I wanted a bag to store food and hang. Over the years, I've always hung a pack and thought a bag would be better. However, the bag adds weight without really improving functionality. The "rock-it pocket" concept was good. I've tied many rocks only to have them fall loose before looping the branch. However, the concept fails miserably here. 1st, the pocket is so small, you'd have to melt lead into it to get it heavy enough for a good throw, 2nd, the pocket is heavy itself, adding unnessary weight to your pack. It comes with 50 foot of cord. The cord is pretty heavy too. I've used lighter cords for years without problems. When you hang the bag, you have to hang it with the top up. This makes little sense. If it rains, water can easily get into the cinch hole. Of course, the bag itself isn't waterproof either, which is poor design. It comes with a "pocket" on the side to store the cord and bag. Why do you need a bag within a bag? It is just added weight. The whole unit is flimsy. The velcro on the outside pocket was poorly sewn such that, it was already pulling apart when I took it out of shipping container! When I purchase items, I'm expecting that my backpacking experience will be better, but this purchase has left me with a bag that I will not use again. I'm back to hanging my pack, with the pack raingear on it, with the opening upside down, knowing that this is rain proof, functional, and "critter" resistant.

Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: we used this for what is was meant for--a bear bag
Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: Flimsy replacement. I bought one 10 years ago from Campmor, it was made of a durable cloth material. I lost it, so just bought a new one. The new one is flimsy plastic that I think will be destroyed if it gets near anything sharp or hot.

Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: Only thing lacking is squirrel protection. Place a camp plate upside down inside top of bag before hanging and squirrels cannot get in. Lightweight bag is easier to get up higher away from bears as well. Loved it so much I ordered another one right away.
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: It was convenient to have everything put together, but not worth the price. Almost sent it back when I received it. I think we could have done just as well with any nylon sack. Not sure if this was supposed to be waterproof, (thought so with silicone impregnated fabric,) but we set up camp in the rain one night and the food bags inside were wet. Fortunately, the food was in ziplocs and mostly dry.

Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: Designed very like the late Gregory Bear Bag. Lighter for better or worse.

Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: Great product. I have not had it rip YET, however it may in the future. Great product. Great in the rain. I havent found anything bad on it yet.
Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Equinox Ursus Ultralite Bear Bag: Bought two bag systems and used them on two separate four day trips. They are now ripped and worthless. The material snags on limbs and bark and tears easily. The idea is nice, but if you hike in areas where tree limbs are not strong or straight, use a sock for the rock, a stuff sack or your pack for the main bag.

Q:
I realize its called a "bear bag" but is it truly bear proof?1 answer
A:
No, this item is not designed to withstand a bear trying to get to your treats. If this bear bag is properly in a tree it will help in keeping your food safe. If you are looking for something that is bear-proof, please check the link below.Q:
Is the bag water proof?1 answer
A:
The material itself is silicone impregnated so should be waterproof, however the seams are not sealed so the bag itself in its entirety is not waterproof if submerged.Q:
How much weight is the bag designed to handle?1 answer
A:
10 Lb would be a top limit. this is an ultra lite bag so the material would rip under a lot of weight.
