As a general rule you'd measure from the palm of your hand to the ground. This would be a good general walking and all around length. Now you may go a bit shorter for more severe uphill applications or even longer for down hill applications, that's up to you and the terrain most commonly encountered.Answered on 9/8/2010 by Anonymous
