Wenzel Current - Hiker Tent

Item #: 36447

The Wenzel Current tent sleeps 1-2 people. This is one of the lightest and simplest tents on the market today. It is a single wall tent with a vent at the end and door mesh for venting. It packs small, weighs very little and is very easy to set up. Formerly known as the Wenzel Hiker tent this tent has been around for years and that's because of its simplicity of design.

Comments about Wenzel Current - Hiker Tent 2011:

These comments apply to the Wenzel Starlight, which appears to be same as Hiker. You must spend at least a half-hour applying sealant to all stitching, before you take this into the field. If you fail to take this important step, the tent will not work in the rain. If you do it properly, is v. nice other than condensation.

Comments about Wenzel Current - Hiker Tent 2011:

The tent gathered tons of condensation and leaked when it rained. It was cramped for one person plus backpack: you could not sit up in the tent and had to bend beyond a crawl to get in. The tent has strings to anchor it into the ground which make it difficult when camping in groups as people cannot see them in the dark. The tent broke on the first trip I took it on.

Comments about Wenzel Current - Hiker Tent 2011:

This product is good for the price, it says that it sleeps two but if you are familiar with camping equipment you know you always need to subtract 1 person from what they say that the capacity is. if you are 6'1" like me 195pds+ then this is a one man tent. it's a little hard to get in, I recomend that you get in feet first since there's not much head room to turn around bealieve me! But overall is a good product for the price!

I bought 2 of these tents. One ripped the first night, but we were able to improvise and make it through the week. There is no fly, so would likely leak in a heavy rain. For the price, it's a decent buy.

            A:

Wenzel Current - Hiker Tent 2011 does not need a rain fly. It is a single wall tent. This said in humid weather there will be more condensation than a double wall tent that has a rain fly.

Is it possible to utilize hiking poles instead of the regular tent poles to keep the weight down?
Asked on 5/19/2011 by Dad of 4 from Duluth, GA

          1 answer

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

Trekking poles would not work because there are 2 poles in the front and on in the rear. The one in the rear would be too short for a compacted trekking pole.

if it is raining out will the entire thing stay waterproof including the floor?
          Asked on 3/20/2011 by Anonymous

          1 answer

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

At 600mm of coating for the wall and 1000mm on the floor. The floor is pretty waterproof, the walls are nominally. Usually I would advise 800mm coating or higher for a truly water proof tent. Also note that pooling water can present a problem. To alleviate this use a 5 ft. x 8 ft. Polyethylene Ground Cloth.
