Bought it for the beach, but use if for hiking, camping, fishing (even in the rain) and it works out nicely. I understand the meshing is an issue for side snaps for the brim, but they would be nice. However, the neck cord will hold up the sides.

Comments about Outdoor Research Transit Sun Hat: I bought this hat three years ago and use it several times a week hiking the trail at a mountain park where I volunteer. The venting allows sweat to evaporate and keeps my head cool. Since the vented section doesn't extend to the front, my bald head receives protection from the sun while still keeping my head cool. I've worn it in high winds and the strap has kept the hat on my head without a problem. I wash the hat in a washing machine (just thrown in with a load of laundry) on a regular basis and hang it to dry and it hasn't shrunk. This is a great sun hat.
