I lost & wanted to replace one I'd had for 15 years, but the headband came out of the adjuster (I presume a poor knot slipped undone) on the first attempt out of the package. I was disappointed before I put it on to see that the chin strap, which had saved the original one from sailing away in the wind countless times, no longer had a locking device and so was reduced to a means of hanging the hat from the neck when not worn, a decided step back in it's own right. I think the materials themselves are still good and the stitching seemed good, but the hat is still useless to me as there is NO WAY for it to stay on my head. So don't bother.

Plan to return hat. It is comfortable. Wore Labor Day weekend for day hike. During steady rain, I found the hat neither waterproof nor breathable. Its worth paying more for Gore-tex if you hike in rainy parts of the country. Should be fine in dry climates.

the hat has proven to be of limited use and poorly ventilated. I'll get more use out of it in the rainy season but its useless on a sunny day. A poor choice on my part.

Since I wear hearing aids, I need a brim on my hat that doesn't promote feedback from them. The sombrero, having a lightly stiff brim, answers that problem and protects face, ears, and exposed back of the neck from the sun.
