The Big Agnes Encampment sleeping bag offers warmth to 15 degrees and protection from moisture with INTEGRITY; Short Staple synthetic insulation with 97% recycled content; feels as warm and soft as down. The Encampment includes the company's popular integrated pad sleeve system which is different than the traditional sleeping bag on top of a sleeping pad. Instead, they unite the two. With Big Agnes, the pad slides into an integrated sleeve on the bottom of the bag, and the top two-thirds of the bag is insulated in the traditional style. When insulation material is compressed under your body, it loses most of its ability to insulate. They eliminate the unnecessary bottom insulation and replace it with a sleeve to accommodate the pad which provides the insulation. Requires a 20 in. wide rectangular pad (sold separately).
  • Integrated pad sleeve. Never roll off your pad again
  • Rectangular shape offers more room in foot box and shoulders
  • Shell: Nylon rip-stop. WR surface treatment to repel water
  • Lining: Soft, breathable nylon with stain resistant finish.
  • Pad sleeve: Nylon rip-stop. WR surface treatment to repel water.
  • 70 in. YKK #8 zipper. Mate together our left and right zip bags with same size zipper
  • No-draft collar seals around neck to keep cold air from sneaking in
  • No-draft wedge insulates the connection between the bag and pad
  • No-draft zipper tube insulates along the length of the zipper
  • Requires a 20 in. wide rectangular pad (sold separately)
  • A-Flex™: A synthetic construction technique which combines layers of 'flexed' insulation with smaller 'anchor' pieces to connect them. The 'flexed' layers increase loft and trapped air space and the 'anchors' maximize heat containment by eliminating gaps and creating more air pockets.

  • Cotton storage sack & nylon stuff sack included
  • Stuff Sack Size: 9" x 20"

  • Q:

You list the following for this bag: Stuff sack - 10x20, Compressed - 10x10, and Stuff size - 9x20. Can you explain the differences? 10x10 vs 9x20 is a big difference!

According to the manufacturer, the standard stuff size is 9x20. The compressed stuff size is 10 x 10. Big Agnes has this measurement from their unique compression stuff sack design. They are known as the girdle compression straps.

Is this pad a good choice with this bag? Thermarest Trail Pro Self Inflating Sleeping Pad Item #: 55185

I would recommend an insulated inflatable pad. I recently purchased the Big Agnes insulated Q Core (switching from the trail pro), and have never slept better on the trail. First, it packs very small - about the size of a Nalgene bottle. Second, it is much lighter than a self inflating. Third, it has higher R value - so it insulates better. And lastly (most important) it is far more comfiortable. It blows up to 3.5", so if you are a side sleeper, nothing, and I mean nothing touches the ground. Not your hip, not your shoulder - no sore spots in the morning. One thing - make sure you don't blow it up too much - as that will cause sore spots as well. Best investment I ever made for backcounty sleeping.
