Comments about Black Diamond First Strike Youth Trekking Poles:

I am quite small (5 ft., 95 lbs) and bought this set and another set (Blackdiamond FL Z-poles, women's) for hiking, trying to decide which one. While the Z-poles had more comfortable, wider straps, I found the First Strike to fit quite nicely in my hands and had almost decided to keep them since they were almost 3 times cheaper and also slightly lighter in weight.

But once I tried putting them down on my floors with some force to simulate hiking, I noticed that the First Strike vibrated with with each down stroke, while the Z-poles did not do this. I ended up keeping the Z-poles.

It probably has to do with the resonance frequency, so at a different length setting, this may not be a problem (I did not try them at different lengths). I was trying them at about 105 cm. Also, if the vibrations don't bother you, it might be a great economical alternative to more expensive, adult versions. The flick-lock technology is a big plus.
