Comments about The North Face Rock 22 - Tent:

This is a perfect tent for me, a minimalist car camper. It sets up easily, it protects from rain, its vestibules are roomy. I love the fact that it has doors on both sides for easy entrance/exit. Twice I camped in it for a week in Mexico with a house-building group from my church. It kept me warm and comfortable. I also stayed dry one night when it poured all night. I have also set it up in high winds. That night it got full of dust because it's well-ventilated--normally an asset. I'm 6' 3" so I sleep diagonally in it, and I'm very comfortable. It's billed as a 2-person tent, but those 2 people should be VERY friendly!

Comments about The North Face Rock 22 - Tent:

I haven't used it yet. First set up was easy. Has plenty of room. I like the double doors and vestibules...I can set my gear in the vestibules and have more room inside for sleeping. Hope it will stand up to wind and rain; I'll use it for accommodations on western wildfire assignments.

Comments about The North Face Rock 22 - Tent:

I am a first time tent camper and the Rock 22 was recommended by a friend. I had it out this weekend for the first time in pouring rain for 3 days. The tent was impressive standing up to weather, but no way is this tent suited for two people. Good luck fitting two normal sized people in this product. Other than that, I loved the tent.

Comments about The North Face Rock 22 - Tent:

I havent taken it out in inclamate weather yet so I cant say anything about how the weather efects the tent.
Its super easy and fast to set up! It is also very light weight and you can get the tent, poles, stakes, fly, and the optional footprint into the stuff sack with no problems at all.
The only gripe I have with the tent is the rain fly. Theres a center pole that clips to the fly with platic retainers. I feel that this can and will only be damaged over time, leaving you without a fly.

Comments about The North Face Rock 22 - Tent:

Well over 100 nights out with scout troops; that's a lot of lodging for the cost. You can get some water seeping in at the ends in heavy rain since the fly touches the mesh upper on the bottoms at the ends, but you can correct that and mitigate water with good campsite choice, being sure ground cloth doesn't overhang the sides and adding a guy point. Full mesh upper nice in hot climate. Vestibules are spaceous. Super easy set-up. One shock cord is starting to go, but again, quite a few nights for this cost. For one man, it's a castle.

Comments about The North Face Rock 22 - Tent:

Only used this tent once but since I set it up prior to going in the field with it, I was able to set this tent up between 5-10 minutes in the dark after my son's Boy Scout troop arrived at our campsite late.

I bought to use as a single tent since I am over 6ft and had plenty of room for me and my gear. Rained like crazy the second night but no rain got through the fly and no dew inside the tent the next day.

2 large vesibules keep gear dry and it's nice to have 2 doors for easy in/out on either side.

The aluminum poles are very high quality, lightweight and really easy to set up (2 primary poles and one for the fly.

The stakes that come with it are your typical metal stakes and heavy so I bought the aluminum (med size) stakes and they worked great and were lightweight.

The tent tears down easy and everything fits perfectly back into the included gear bags.

This tent may be a bit too long when packed away for avid backpackers but I like it very much.

The bamboo green color is also very attractive. Blends in nicely with terrain in the field and around the trees.

Comments about The North Face Rock 22 - Tent:

After series of bad tent purchases, drove up from NC to Campmor retail store to select tent. Wanted a tent that would be perfect -- and I got it. Have taken this on a number of Scouting weekend trips, once in gusty, heavy downpour, all in hot, humid North Carolina, and never had a issue with dampness, leaks, or even flapping in the wind. Only complaint is that gear can tend to slide out of the vestibules, but that has more to do with the user than the tent.
I have been camping for over 25 years and never been more satisfied with any piece of gear, ever.

                      • Q:

                        Hi,

I'm a BS leader with a troop in Western Pa and I purchased the Rock 22 about 8 years ago from Campmor. My son and I have spent approx. 50-60 nights camping in this tent and we've been very pleased. This summer we were camping in Maine when we noticed that the rain fly is starting to delaminate from the inside, top and center area mainly. During a heavy rain we did get some H2O dripping inside the tent.
Over the past 8 years we tried to always set up the tent after trips to dry out, clean out the inside and we would loosely pack the rainfly and tent seperatly in different stuff sacks until used again. Do you know if North Face would have a warranty for the R-Fly delaminating??

Can I purchase just a new rainfly? This has been a great tent for back packing and for canoe trips.

                        Thanks.

                        Dan
