Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse SL 2 Person Tent - 2013:

Can't beat the packing weight and size. The tent is so light that it definitely needs staked down. It does not take much wind to move it even if you have some gear inside. I got this tent mainly for myself when out alone though it would be adequate for two people. While sleeping there is no escaping touching a little on both ends or either at your head or feet. With two people I suspect each person will touch the sides just as easily. I never felt cramped though. Given the generous dimensions of this tent compared to others you will be hard pressed to find better. I usually sleep out in the open however not always (mosquitos, rain, etc.) so I considered getting a bivy and/or tarp instead however when factoring in the weight, packing size, and benefits this tent with the footprint really was the better choice for my purposes. I have any configuration I want with this setup. Furthermore it is light enough and small enough that I can pack it in case I need or want to use it without taking up much room in my pack. Given all the factors there really is not a better tent for the price, weight, and size.

Comfortable for one. For two, you need to be very close with your partner. If you are over 6 feet, there is not a lot of room in your feet. Super compact, light and well built. Have not tested in heavy rain yet.

This tent was used in Hawaii for over 5 years. Each Scouting High Adventure involved High Altitude camps (Haleakala), Mountains and Beaches. All treks were at least 5 days and the tent still looks basically new although several of the original pegs were lost. The tent is truly sturdy in high winds and waterproof in heavy sustained rains depending if the tent is properly set up. A great and proven design!

I bought this to replace my old tent for a three-day section hike on the Appalachian Trail Saved several pounds and the tent did very well. Could probably just use the fly but my travel partner wanted something enclosed to keep the critters out. Easy to set up and take down.

I purchased this tent after a lot of research, trying to find the best light backpacking tent I could afford as I start taking my hiking to the next level and build in some overnights in the wilderness. For the price and the size (I am a 5'4" petite woman) it is fantastic. I can even sit up and mostly stretch my arms over my head. I've yet to take a trip with it, but am looking forward to it, after the test set up in the backyard.

Great tent. i was mountain climbing in Telluride summiting peaks on a 3 day expedition. Three days is not a lot but above 12,000 feet in snow. it gets pretty miserable. this tent is great for single person too. no problems with this tent, just wish it was cheaper.

                    • Q:

I have two questions: (1) Is this the newest 2012 model Seedhouse tent that weighs 3 lb 1 oz? It is listed on your website as weighing 3 lb 6 oz, but Big Agnes recently updated this tent and the newest 2012 model weighs 3 lb 1 oz. (2) Would you consider this tent to be more spacious than the Fly Creek tent? It appears to be slightly more spacious based on comparison of photos. It looks like the there may be more head room because the sides don't slope inward as sharply, even though the floor dimensions are comparable. It's hard for me to tell without sitting in it, though. Thanks!

                        A:

1.This is the 2012 Seedhouse SL 2. It weights: 3 Lb as weighed on a warehouse scale.
The Seedhouse has an Area (Sq. Ft.) 28 + 8 vest. The fly creek has an Area (Sq. Ft.) 28 tent + 7 vest. So the Seed House has a slightly larger vestibule. The Seed house has a little more horizontal head room than the fly creek.

Would this tent fit a Thermarest Z-Lite sleeping pad and a Thermarest Pro-Lite Plus? And/or two Pr-Lite Plus'? *Without over-lapping*

                        A:

As with any 2 person tent a pro=lite plus and a z-lite pad will fit side by side. There will not be much floor space left. The vestibule will be where you will store your pack.

                    • Q:

Hello I'm new at backpacking but I love the outdoors. I'm not sure which tent would be better for me I'm looking at the Big Agnes Seedhouse Sl 2 and the Fly Creek UL2. I want a tent plenty big enough for my girl friend and myself but very light weight for I have a bad back and don't want to lug around a lot of weight. I will be using this on 1-7 day trips in the southeast TN, AL mainly. I also want one that can handle the stress of using it often in various wether conditions without spending a whole lot of money. Any help with this big decision.

                        A:

The Seedhouse will give you better horizontal head room. The Fly Creek's side walls come more acutely in than the Seedhouse. Both the Fly Creek and the Seedhouse have netted walls so they will be good airy tents in warmer weather. In colder weather though you will experience slight breezes that some people do not like.
