Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles: Used these poles on the Inca Trail. They packed into my carry on and worked without issue on the trail. As well they have durable (and replaceable) rubber tips which is what's required for this trail.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles: The major advantage is that these poles can be carried in luggage on airlines. TSA doesn't allow them in carry-ons but they can be taken in checked baggage. We just used them in Ecuador and Peru. They performed well in difficult climbs.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles: These worked great on a recent trip hiking in Italy and Switzerland. Very light weight, easy to throw in the pack and suitcase. Held up well hiking up and down in the Cinque Terre.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles: All other collapsable poles don't fit into a regular sized suitcase. These fit very nicely and they are lightweight and don't take up much space, so I can pack more things.

Best Uses Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles: These seemed great at first, but despite keeping them clean, they became very tough to collapse and extend for use. Soon after that, the handles became seized in the collapsed position, rendering them useless. It seems as if Black Diamond rushed these to market, and didn't do the needed testing on them. I hope they aren't as careless with their climbing gear.

Q:
Is it safe to use unlocked? If I lock the handle as recommended with the flicklock, the pole becomes way too tall. If I leave it unlocked, it is just the right height. (Going from the 110 to the 100 still makes it too tall for me in the locked position.)1 answer
A:
You would need to secure the shaft. You could not practically use this pole without securing it because the shaft would slide down.Q:
hi what lenght for a 6 foot person and a 5 foot 2 person thanks1 answer
A:
The key to sizing your pole is to adjust the length of the pole so the elbow is bent slightly less and 90 degrees. This will allow you to go down hill with good reach and to climb with minimal stumbling of the pole. For steeper descents you can adjust the pole longer for better reach and for steeper climbs a shorter pole to track close to your torso as you climb for support.
