The Eureka Apex 2 is a lightweight 2 person tent with 2 doors and great ventilation. Its hybrid style (½ double wall and ½ single wall) create a light yet functional design. Because 3 walls are waterproof the fly can be smaller and that means weight savings. The portion of the tent covered by the fly is no-see-um mesh for great ventilation and stargazing opportunities. The sturdy shockcorded fiberglass frame is durable and packs down to a manageable size. Small batwing semi vestibules cover the mesh vents in the doors for great ventilation even in rain and provide limited gear protection. Each door is equipped with a waterproof storm/privacy flap.
  • Sleeps 2
  • All main fly and floor seams are factory sealed
  • 2 large, 'D' style doors for easy and convenient exit & entry
  • Bathtub floor keeps seams taut and high off the ground for superior protection

  • Sturdy shockcorded fiberglass frame

These tents were purchased for a Boy Scout troop and they have perfomed perfectly. A little heavy for prolonged hiking adventures but work well for weekend campouts or limited hiking. Sturdy and well constructed, these tents have taken a beating and still perform as advertised.

Comments about Eureka Apex 2 - Tent:

I used this tent in the rain and cold and awoke the next day with the inside walls wet with condensation. The fly only partially covers (I thought from the picture the other half was rolled up but not the case). The half-fly blocks out half the sun so that in the heat you roast. In the rain it means you cant fully open the ventilation windows as it'll rain through half the window. The fly on the sides arches so this also does not block out the light/heat. The half ventilation windows don't let in much breeze, I have to keep the door half open - bugs or heat. This is a bad tent design and I wish I could return it for something else.

Comments about Eureka Apex 2 - Tent:

As a child and teen I was an avid camper, and after four years in the army, have recently got back into it. After shopping around, looking up, researching and reviewing dozens of tents, I eventually decided to purchase this model. I love it.

I hike and camp with my dog, a small beagle, and this tent has more than enough room for us, and another person. I've taken it on four trips; a one night, 2 two nights and a three night. Very light, takes up minimal space on my pack. The three night trip had substantial wind and rain, with temperatures in the low 30s during the nights. I stayed dry the entire time. The nights are rather chilly, but I also don't use a sleeping bag so I may take some blame for that.

The twin vestibules are magnificent, plenty of space, and fantastic fold-away options. I re-set my tent after I found which way the wind and rain was coming (very easy to pop up stakes, rotate the tent and restake) and had an open view of the lake I was staying at, remainig perfectly dry and comfortable inside. I also set up my camp stove and cooked breakfast under the folded vestibule one morning and everything worked fine.

My dog stays in the tent, and her claws have not punctured or damaged the fabric in any way, but she's about 23 pounds, so not a heavy dog.

However, the stakes that come with the tent are worthless. Bent and mangled them the very first trip. I bought eight 10 inch steel coleman stakes after that trip and they have worked fine since.

Honestly, I would give this tent 5 stars, but I know if you spend more money, you will get a better tent. I think you'd have to spend at least another hundred though, this tent really is fantastic, taking it out for another trip this weekend.

Comments about Eureka Apex 2 - Tent:

I researched and reviewed literally hundreds of tents before finally settling on this one. The first time I set it up, I broke one of the plastic snaps holding the rainfly down, but that was my own fault, I tend to treat things rougher than I generally should. A little DIY work got it good as new in a few minutes as well.
I've taken it on three trips now, car camping and backpacking twice and I love it. The last trip I spent three days in contant rain with some heavy winds, inside the tent everything stayed dry.
The vestibules are great, they have plenty of room, and provide an ample amount of cover for gear.
As for warmth, most of the nights I stayed it was between 30-40 degrees outside, using only a foam sleeping pad and my old army blanket, I was chilly, but fine. I imagine with a sleeping bag, I would have been far more than comfortable.
Each time I went out, I discovered something new I had previously looked over, adding to my love of this tent.
Overall, I don't think a better tent can be found for less than 150$

Comments about Eureka Apex 2 - Tent:

My sons and I used it for Philmont and the training hikes for it. The fly "vestibule" is basically open to the rain, with only about a foot or so that's far enough into the angle to create an "awning" effect, so it is completely and utterly useless at keeping the rain from getting any gear wet that's in the vestibule. Also, the zipper to open the tent and climb out starts on the non-awning-covered end. The instant you try to crawl out of the tent in the rain, the tent starts to fill with water. This is a colossally stupid design and I regret spending the money on the tent. I tried calling the manufacturer to complain and get a refund and their response was no, so I let them know that my reviews were going to be bad. DON'T BUY THIS TENT!

Comments about Eureka Apex 2 - Tent:

While I gave this a great review after a 5 day dry horsepacking trip, I now have to write following an 8 day trip with an all night rain and several afternoon into evening rains. The tent bottom leaked (with ground cloth, tent bottom and silver emergency blanket set up) and the sides leaked where the rain fly provided no protection. Happily, Campmor has been very helpful in allowing me to return the tent.

The specs on the Campmor site say the pack size is 5"x24", but the tent specification table on the Eureka website (http://store.eurekatent.com/media/document/2010tent_specs.pdf) indicates that the pack size is 6"x18.5". Can anyone verify the length on the pack size? I need to be able to fit the tent/poles in motorcycle side cases - max length ~19 inches. Thanks!
