The Timberline SQ 2XT tent from Eureka sleeps 2 and is a classic tent updated with the latest in frame technology. The 2XT adds a storage vestibule built right onto the front of the tent and a second door for convenience and improved ventilation. The Timberline series has been famous for years as the Scout's tent of choice, Why? Because of ease of set up, durability and reliability. Well Eureka just made it better with a stronger and easier to set up aluminum frame set. The frame is so tough that Eureka began to compare it to the strength and durability of the giant Sequoia tree and the name stuck (SQ). A stronger, thicker ridge pole and the SQ frame's spreader pole not only increase overall frame strength but adds more usable living space to the interior of the tent. Improved ventilation with the addition of 2 generous roof vents mean long humid tent nights will be much more comfortable than in the past. In addition Eureka has lengthened the side of the fly for even more coverage and added vestibule wings to the rear of the tent to protect the 2nd door from weather. Some of the good old parts remain like the use of RipStop materials on the fly for strength and worry free use. This is a classic tent and it just got better.

  • Sleeps 2
  • All main fly and floor seams are factory sealed with seam tape
  • Bathtub style floor wraps up the sides to keep you dry
  • Freestanding design is stable and easy to set up
  • Unique and proprietary Sequoia shockcorded aluminum frame is unmatched for stability and strength.
  • 2 Large end (door) windows are closable and 2 large roof vents (non-closable) for improved ventilation
  • 2 doors with Hi/Lo venting lets warm air flow out from the top while letting cool air in from the bottom
  • Full coverage fly protects the tent and occupants from inclement weather
  • Polyester RipStop fly is tough and durable and won't stretch when wet
  • Front storage vestibule is built right onto the fly for easy set up and excess/wet gear storage
  • Front vestibule is vented for even better air circulation
  • 4 interior storage pockets help with organization
  • All clip set up is fast and easy
  • Post and grommet pole to body connection is fast and simple
  • Lite-Set footprint optional - allows you to set up the fly with just the poles - leave the body home - lightweight option - Lite set weight 4 lbs 10 oz
  • Rear vestibule wings protect the rear door from weather
  • External guy points to keep the tent stable in storms and high winds

Comments about Eureka Timberline SQ 2XT Tent:

First: This is a wonderful tent. Second: If you read my method for inserting the spreader rod on the SQ 4XT fly, don't do it on this one! The Eureka people realizing that folks were having a hard time getting the spreader rod into the little pockets on the fly, re-designed one of the pockets to have an open side to allow the rod to be slipped in easier. Once the rod is in, the pocket is closed with a velcro strap. It's too bad the instructions don't mention this change. My old eyes didn't see the change to the pocket so I tried to gently lever the rod in and ripped the fly. Campmor customer service sent me a new one, Thanks you guys! Great service!
The tent itself is the same quality tent as the four person just scaled down. There is a change to the fly to include a vestibule on one end. It zips open if you wanted to go out or for more ventilation. I think in a bad wind it could be pointed into the wind to help deflect the wind around the tent. There are two doors on this tent. I did see where someone was fussing about the plastic fittings on these tents; this is not "plastic" from fifty years ago, it's the latest development in long lasting durable polymeres of today. They will be working long after you've gone to the grave. In my opinion, this is a dandy one person tent or maybe two and built to last.
By the way; did you know that if you take a lid from a cottage cheese container and cut it in half it makes a great "dust pan"? That and a cheap paint brush will keep your tent floor clean. Store them in one of those inside pockets that are found in each cornor of the tent.

Comments about Eureka Timberline SQ 2XT Tent:

This is one of the very best values for an all around true 2 person tent. For this price point you get full sized, free standing, 2 person tent that's E-Z to set up. Its very strong A-frame design makes it a full 3.5 season tent that could be pressed into many 4 season roles (although not the hard core Everest base camp adrenaline junkie missions I guess).

Ventillation is great, set up a breeze and interior space is perfect for even 2 full sized adults. although if you are over 6 and 1/2 feet tall it may get a bit tight with sleeping gear. In great weather you can leave off the fly and just use the body. It comes with 4 small gear pockets which is handy, but if you are a gear pocket nut then you will want to buy a loft or something to suppliment. The vestibule offers pretty good additional space and full sized doors on both ends you can use every inch of the vesti, clutter it up and not have to go through it to get out which is nice. Although it would be a stretch to try and use it for 2 full sized frame packs with boots and other gear plus try and cook out of it in bad weather. Its not "that" much vesti so if you need that purchase the optional vesti for the other side.

Just to be clear, because the pictures of this tent can be misleading, one side has two flaps which protect from rain at awkward angles (even though it has 2 full sized, fully sealable doors) and the other side has the vest that goes all the way to the ground, although with no floor cover so cut a piece of tarp if you need that.

The stakes are meh but that's the case with almost any tent so be prepared to buy or bring your own. The ones they provide will work in most situations but you will want others for sure.

A lot of reviewers ding this tent on its weight for backpack/hiking camping and claim this is just a car camping tent. Incorrect. Yes, there are lighter tents out there. But again, for the money you spend and the space and all the other positives you get from this one, it can not be beat. Weight is important, but a couple pounds more for one of your most critical pieces of gear that you will be spending 1/3 or more of your time in is worth it if you get something in return for that weight. In this case you absolutely do, especially for price.

So ignore the knee jerk featherweight rants that bash anything but the very lightest equipent on earth. Unless you're desperate to shave off 2/10ths of a second off your camping time speed record, this tent is WELL worth the extra pound or two and is lighter than many in its class anyway. Besides since it is a true full sized 2 person tent, it can be split up nicely between 2 hiker/campers.

This is a time proven design that's served campers well for generations. Easy to set up. Roomy. 3.5 seasons. Well venelated. Strong frame and ample tie down points to stand up to most weather. And its free standing too so you can move it around with ease if you want to.

          Epic tent. Git-summ!

Comments about Eureka Timberline SQ 2XT Tent:

Everything about this tent is quality. Nice ripstop fly, solid zippers, well coated polyester, tough mesh. The problem I had was with the spreader pole.... WAY too tight on mine. The method of placing pocket-in-pocket to attach the fly to the spreader is clumsy, and actually very hard. Maybe my example was a bit off in "tailoring". Lucky that all the pockets, corners, etc. are extremely well sewn-in, with generous seam taping. Still, a few stitches pulled, and the tape separated when stretching the fly over the spreader. I will attest to the quality of design and construction though, really spacious, and with a superior vestibule, vented doors (something which seems to have gone out of style), and compactness. Despite the size, it packs down well, it fits easily in the stuff sacks for some of my other tents. A better bag would be good!

Comments about Eureka Timberline SQ 2XT Tent:

Bought three new tents for our Scout Troop, adding to a fleet of Timberline XTs. Glad to see that all of the bungee tie-outs are gone and the headroom inside is much larger than with the earlier version. New SQ hub is bulky, but then you can't lose it either as it is shock-corded through with the poles. Weird: None of the bags colors or sizes were the same with any of the three tents, though all of tents and flys matched.

I had used 2 person Timberlines for years, the quality got worse. I bought an Awahanee in 1997, very good tent. It finally wore out, at 71, I did not want to spend that much, again. I tried the SQ 2XT by Eurkea, though it's still new, I know enough about tents, that's it's well worth what I paid. I have no doubt that it will serve me well.

Campmor only carries synthetic-material tents. We would suggest a canvas tent, which we do not carry. We do not recommend cooking or using heaters in enclosed spaces.
