Comments about Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings:

We purchased this tent to use on as an extra "room" on an extended festival camping trip. We ended up using it as a Food Serving tent and for keeping Musical Instruments out of the elements. We had several folks help us set it up - it was not difficult, just required a lot of coordination. One of the poles arrived either bent or too thick or something - we shaved it out with a nail file and it worked just fine. Our instruments were dry and the food was kept safe. Doors were a little tricky as they were not really setup for lots of folks walking in and out of the tent, so we'd pull the doors back as far as possible. It worked fine. There were a few high wind situations where it almost blew away - but with additional tie downs/rope we kept it in place.

Nice screen tent

By Mark

from Kalamazoo, MI

Pros

  • Big
  • Dry
  • Well Made

Cons

  • A bit pricey

Best Uses

  • Family Camping

Comments about Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings:

If you need a big, dry screen house for taking the group to the state park, buy this! We've been through 4 cheaper screen tents in the 30 years we've been camping, and this is the only one that keeps everything dry inside and keeps the breeze out (when needed) without tying tarps all over the place. As far a sagging awnings that were mentioned in another review, all you have to do to prevent that is set the poles back at a steeper angle.

Nice Screen Tent-Saved Our Camping Trip

By Family Car Camper

Pros

  • Easy Set Up
  • Held Up To Hail
  • Spacious
  • Stayed dry

Cons

  • Cheap stakes
  • Expensive
  • No Guy Lines

Best Uses

  • Camp KitchenDining Area
  • Car Camping
  • Cover Picnic Table

Comments about Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings:

Used first time over Memorial weekend. Covered a 8' long picnic table with extra space to move around. During a rainy weekend, we made and ate our meals in it, and we played cards and hung out. I wasn't sure how durable the fabric was until the hail came down, and that made a believer out of me. This shelter doesn't do well in the wind, so you need to get some good guylines and extra stakes (8 guylines - 2 per pole
Glad we bought this size screen tent because the 10'x 10' models wouldn't cover a 8' picnic table very well. The family loved having a dry dining and game shelter. Great for family car camping.

Stayed Dry

By Stumpman

from Harrisburg, PA

Pros

  • Dry
  • Roomy

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Car Camping

Comments about Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings:

I've had 4 dining canopies. The cheap ones with 8 ropes to stake down and the quick setup ones with thin nylon that lets water in during downpours. While camping, and storm clouds gathered, I had to run around and try to put up plastic walls to try to keep the dining area dry. Then sit and pray for the storm to end.

The Norhtern Breeze is like the name, a breeze. If I see a storm, I zip down the sides and get out the cards. The size allows ample space for the wife and 3 boys to keep busy and keep fed for hours. No more running to the tent to ride out the rain. The 2 awnings allow us to expand the space even more.

It is bulky, but we are comfort-campers, and the Northern Breeze has definately added comfort to our camping.

Comments about Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings:

Well made and easy to set up with 2 people. Because of the straight up walls it gives you a lot of covered area. Walls/flaps keep rain out if windy. Problem if it's very humid or rainy in that condensation builds up on the inside of the roof.

    Provides lots of comfort

    By Snapples

    Pros

    • Spacious

    Cons

      Best Uses

Comments about Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings:

We have used this as a shelter over our dining area and as a sleeping tent. My favorite aspects are the overall size and the ability to roll up the sides for ventilation and view.

After a few trips with this, I can say with or without the floor we had no rain inside and not even on the ground directly underneath. When you are selective about where you set it up (flat...no ground water from rain traveling towards it) and it must also be staked down...it's so high any wind will make it move...otherwise it is very effective and enjoyable. Friends slept under it in a rain storm with just their 4 season bags and no floor and were bug-less, dry and warm all night

The poles can also be very awkward easily shifting, but it can be set up easily with 1 or 2 people within 10 minutes. I like the very long stakes that are for setting up the front like a shade canopy...but haven't used it that way...I use the long stakes for the corners and it's very stable.

The snap in floor is not a perfect fit...it's too small with not enough attachment points and not enough overlapping fabric. However, it's been nice to have a floor when we want it in the summer when my husband and I camp without the kids. The snap in floor does get a little scuffed up from the ground.

The zipper stops all over the tent are fabric and not metal. On my first tent, one of all the zippers had a tiny fabric stop. The zipper pull continued right off the tent and then makes the tent permanently open since the start of the zipper is fixed to the ceiling. Campmor exchanged mine for no cost for this reason.

I found somewhere that the manufacturer prefers the tent not be stored in the bag, but lightly folded outside the bag and the poles not be stored folded by assembled. I'm a little irritated by all the pole bags like caps to protect the poles internal strings when folded during travel...the bags and their ties are too short...I can't see myself using them long term. Most of the men I've camped with do not have small enough hands or the patience to wrap up every bundle with such short bags and ties.

Comments about Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings:

My wife and have used it as a tent, a dining and cooking area, and as a place to stay dry during a huge Midwest thunderstorm.

Pay attention to where you set it up. secure all tie downs, and combined with the floor it will remail dry inside.

On one memorable multi-day camp, we moved our huge outfitter cots into the screened room and stayed there all night! We were comfortable and had lots of room to walk around. The next day, while the sun was beating down on our neighbors we relaxed in the shade of our tent and prepared our meals and ate without worrying about the pesky flys and mosquitoes. At night we hung a fly cathcher from the convenient hook in the center of the tent and had a mosquito coil burning just in case.

Late one night, a thunderstorm struck and we remained dry and cool, despite the heavy rain and high wind. I had even kept one end of the tent open, relying on the awning and bug screen to keep the rain out! It worked like a charm.

Best Tent/Screen room I have ever owned. We leave our other tent at home now. This is so easy to put up, that it makes camping much more enjoyable.

Does the fly cover the entire side so that the rain won't come in? The pictures look like there is an opening which would allow water to come in if you had the floor attachment.

The Northern Breeze come with 4 side flaps that can be used as awnings with up right poles, or can be secured down to prevent wind blown rain from getting into the inside of the screen house.

            A:

The Eureka Northern Breeze Screen House with Sides & Awnings is not rated for wind. Generally high winds will damage a screen house like this. You would want to set this up in a sheltered location. Make sure the screen house is staked down and guy lines used to stablize the tent in gust of wind.

        • Q:

The review by RVer said "...everything is ties and velcro...no clamps or snaps. Furthermore, I do not know why they did not design the sidewalls to zipper or clamp shut. In high winds there is no way to keep the rainfly closed on the sides." But I see an answer that says the sides zipper shut. So, I want to know if the sides do zipper shut, and if so, do they zipper from the inside or outside? Also, we have an Equinox and love the way it snaps to the poles, so does this tent not have the snaps; does it use velcro snaps or something else?
