Comments about Eureka! Grand Manan 9 Tent:

This tent is used for car camping. Easy to set up. Love the side walls as they give more standing room. The ventilation is great but I'm not sure about the inside windows. They have toggle tie-downs and I'm not sure how they will close out a breeze during colder weather. This is why it does not get rated with 5 stars. Perhaps they should have used zipper or Velcro closures. The rain fly does go all the way to the ground so hopefully that cold wind will be kept to a minimum. All in all a fantastic tent that my wife and I are extremely happy with. Can't wait for some cooler weather to use it on our next camping/fishing trip here in Texas.

Comments about Eureka! Grand Manan 9 Tent:

We've only used it once, buy my wife and I love it. It has been years since I last bought one and this purchase was definitely comfort driven. Getting in and out of a smaller tent is not as easy as it was 20 years ago, so the engineering of this tent was what sold me, as well as the total coverage rain fly. At 5'11", I can stand upright in every corner and don't have to slump or get on hands and knees to enter/exit. I can actually stand up in the morning to get dressed! There is also plenty of room for a queen sized air mattress. The rainfly is awesome with its identical front and rear entries with windows, as is the venting system. Will be using it again next weekend and am looking forward to setting it up. I actually can't wait to camp in the rain with this tent.

Comments about Eureka! Grand Manan 9 Tent:

I have had this tent for almost a year now, and have used it on numerous Boy Scout and Venturing camp-outs. It's always been dry and comfortable, even in heavy storms.

This past weekend, I was on South Bass Island, Ohio at Put-in-bay on Lake Erie for the War of 1812 anniversary, camping right on the Perry Monument grounds with the lake on both sides of me. There were 35 knot winds that tore down many a sturdy tent and even a very heavy and stury dining fly. This tent made it through the night with only a small fracture in a pole. I thought for sure it would collapse, but it made it through brilliantly!

Comments about Eureka! Grand Manan 9 Tent:

I bought the tent a yeaR ago and did not respond to this as I wanted to give it some time and use it. It really is nice and roomy and well ventilated. But it is extremely hard to set up. I have to read the directions line by line each time. Also the carry bag is really limited. we have to carry the poles separately as it is hard to get everything bag in the bag after using. This is a problem of course because things can get separated and lost.

We wanted a roomy, rain proof tent for our Oregon family- this tent fits the bill superbly. We've been kept dry through several rain storms. The extra room the bent pole design allows is awesome. The ventable fly is genius. The only thing that I'd improve is the quality of the tent stakes.

The Manan is good for a double air mattress, Plenty of room. The very wide screened windows sit low and are great. The Brown color of the fly blend the tent into the background. The tub liner is kinda thin so I used plastic underneath it. The two doors are good, zippers are good, head room is fine. Poles are crazy long and super strong. Poles for the front door tarp set up are sold seprately. I like It

Comments about Eureka! Grand Manan 9 Tent:

The two doors are great! Also this allows the zippers to wear out slower. The prebent elbow in the poles creates a wider living space for 16" above the floor. The vestibules protect while entering and exiting. The floor-level vents allow air flow across the sleepers. They should capture any breezes.
These and the 6' stand up height satisfied all the characteristics we were looking for. We are definitely comfort campers, and this tent will take care of us well.

What are the INSIDE dimensions of the floor; is it truly 9 ft? This is important to me so I can fit a queen size air mattress and have adequate space on the sides and foot of the mattress. I have found that the actual inside dimensions of tents can be 6-8" less than the stated floor size.

It sounds like the windows and door do not have solid zip-up panels that would cover the screen panels.

Is there a tent of this general size that does have a solid (not screen) zip-up window and door feature?

I highly reccommend this series of Eureka tents. I own the smaller version of this model and routinely camp in the Adirondack Park, and often encounter severe downpours. Even without a seam sealer my tent has withstood the worst storms. I have used a proofer on it as a just in case. As was stated by the expert, make sure you set up in an area with good drainage and always put a footprint down.

2 issues on real wet environments:
                    a. How good are the coating on the fly and floor. For the Grand Manan 9 the coating for the fly is 1200 mm and the floor is 1500 mm. This is a respectable coating, however a tent with a higher coating like 2000 or up would be more waterproof for extreme conditions.
                    b. Tent sighting. If you set the tent up in a location that collects water this will result in the tent being flooded. Make sure you set your tent up in a location with good drainage.
