The Kelty Gunnison 4.1 is fairly light weight 3 season 4 person tent. Perfect for Mom, Dad and the 2 kids. The Gunnison uses DAC FeatherLite NSL aluminum poles with a Swivel Hub which speeds set up and improves stability. The polyester non stretch, UV resistant full coverage fly provides complete coverage and total weather protection as well as two HUGE 15.6 sq.ft. vestibules outside either large side entry door. The vestibules are great places to store extra gear or even your MIL. Easy to set up due to its color coded clip system and freestanding design. The Gunnison 4.1 also has superb ventilation, with mesh on all 4 sides of the tent and that makes for a comfortable nights sleep. And don't forget the clear window on the fly lets in light and adds ambiance. And you gotta have ambiance when you are in the woods.
  • Sleeps 4
  • Main fly and floor seams are factory taped to keep the rain out
  • Arc Edge floor seams - perimeter floor seams are off the ground and inverted for superior water protection
  • DAC FeatherLite NSL shockcorded aluminum poles are lighter and feature a floating connector between the pole sections, which improves stability and strength
  • Freestanding 2 pole design is fast and easy to set up
  • 2 each 15.6 (humongous) sq.ft. vestibules are great for storing extra or wet gear
  • Full coverage fly protects the tent from harsh weather
  • Clear window in fly lets in light and lets you spy the bear stealing your food - has welded seams so it won't leak - that would be the window not the bear
  • Non stretch, UV resistant polyester fly
  • All clip assembly for fast set-up and maximizes air flow
  • Fly vents for improved ventilation
  • No-see-um mesh on all 4 sides of the tent for venting

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 4.1 Tent:

I use these tents as a fleet for the wilderness canoe trips I guide. The tent works very well and is roomy for 3 adults. It is easy to set up and does so quickly and the ventilation is very good so there is almost no condensation inside the tent in the morning. VERY water and wind proof. This tent has weathered many strong storms. My only desire for change is for a bit sturdier floor material. Buy the footprint as it will extend the life of the tent bottom.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 4.1 Tent:

For starters the tent was very easy to setup.I wanted a tent that I could take backpacking with my family. After lots of research this seemed to be the best all around tent. My son and I unpacked it and set it up in a matter minutes. It was his first night out. The tent was great for star gazing. The weather was great so we left the rain fly off. I hate to say that I woke up to a wet tent. The worse part was it was wet on my sons side. I couldn't figure it out. With the footprint and the waterproof seams. I'm new to this but I'm not sure if I should try some seam sealer or send it back. I'm going to try once more and see If I can figure it out. Overall I'm happy with the quailty of the tent, but lets face it we all want to be dry.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 4.1 Tent:

We recently bought this for a 4 person backpacing tent. We wanted the entire family in one tent so we can play cards, and so that the kids will be close to mom as we sleep.

We broke the tent up so that one packer got the poles, another the stakes and groud cloth, a third got the tent body, and the fourth got the fly. We refolded the tent body and put it into a different bag so that it fit in a backpack better.

We enjoyed the tent. It setup easily. We did not get rain, but it seemed ok. We did have quite a lot of moisture inside the rain fly as we did not properly vent it given the 4 bodies in the tent on a night that got into the upper 40's. I am sure that this will be less of a problem the next time out.

As you can imagine, there was no room for gear in the tent with all four of us in it. That was to be expected however. If you are looking for a 4 person backpacking tent keeping your gear in the tent with you really is not an option.

The Bottom Material doesn't seem very durable and could tear easily. Be sure and have a STORNG ground cloth.

Also if you wanted to split the poles up you can't. There are only two but they are connected. Which makes for a very easy setup!

Knowing that poles in sleeves tend to be more wind resistant than clips...I was interested to see how it would hold up when we camped on Asseteague Island in unusually high winds. The tent boogied all night long but stood firm!

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 4.1 Tent:

I love this tent. We set up at least a dozen in the store and browsed lots more before ordering this one online.

It is perfect for what we wanted--semi-lightweight and very roomy. It is a palace for 2 people; it could be used for 3. We do a lot of canoe camping where weight is a consideration, but not an imperative. We also do a lot of car camping via airplane and rental car. We bring our tent, sleeping bags, etc., and we want to get it all in one checked bag. This tent is fantastic for both applications. It is sturdy, lightweight, and has lots of space. We especially like the space when we're canoe camping because, face it, sometimes we have to hide out from the insects. We use it for all our car camping. (We have a smaller, lighter two-person Kelty for backpacking, although on some trips I'd even consider this one.)

We bought this tent last June and used it on several trips over the summer and fall. It performed beautifully in the rain. There was not a lot of condensation at 38 degrees. (There was at 28 degrees, but what do you expect). I thought it was easy to set up. I'd probably prefer the old style of clips instead of the ball joints or whatever they are called, but that's just because I don't like change--this totally worked. I also bought the factory footprint and I love how it hooks up to the bottom.

                I'm very satisfied.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 4.1 Tent:

I used this tent on the North Slope of AK and it suited us well. The only concern I have is the plastic snaps on the poles. If any one of these snaps broke, I was not sure how we could have repaired them to salvage the tent. It would be nice if a repair kit was included for these plastic snaps at the bottom of the poles as well as the one on the top.

I would say the packed weight it is without the box. I just weighed mine with poles, fly, tent and stakes in the bag, and my bathroom scale is reading 8.5 lbs. This is not a long haul backpacking tent unless you can divvy up the components out to three people.
