Comments about Coleman Palmetto Sleeping Bag:

The sleeping bag seemed like it was really well made for the price tag. The deal breaker for us was the inside fabric -- very unnatural and caught on every rough spot on your skin, especially on your feet. Hard to describe, but it was not something I thought I could sleep through. When we returned the bags, the person at the counter said they occasionally get that comment about this particular bag.

This was a "Santa" gift for my son, still a little big for him but I saw no reason to go with a kids bag knowing he would be happy with a big one and I wouldn't have to replace it in 2 years because he outgrew it. He also loved the color and I like that is has a stuff sack.

Bought two of these for my boyfriend and I, for a few days camping in the Redwood Forest. We put the two together, and stayed warm even in rainy, cold conditions (30s and 40s). The bag did not absorb wetness on the outside which was great since our tent started leaking! We were extremely pleased by how lightweight the bags were, and how they seemed high-quality and were easy to roll back up. Also, can't beat the price!

I want to buy a compression stuff sack but the sizes are usually in liters. How many liter stuff sack would you recommend with 10x20?

                      A:

A 35 liter stuff sack would work best with this particular sleeping bag, due to the insulation and general construction of the bag making it pack bigger compared to other synthetics and down bags.

                  • Q:

Answering Q:1 you mention a thinner side / heavier side. I don't see that referenced anywhere in the description. Does that mean that more of the insulation is on the top or the bottom determined by using it as a right or left zipper? Is that how the 30-50 degree differential is achieved?

The Coleman Brazos is listed as 20-40 degrees, does it likewise have more insulation on one side? Thanks.

There was a little misunderstanding on my part. The Palmettos has a comfort range of 30-50 degrees. The bag does not different thickness of insulation on one side compared to the other though. the insulation is the same on each side. Sorry for the confusion.

If you are sleeping on an insulated surface like a foam mattress and the thinner side is to the mattress the heavier side will be on top and this is how one would sleep in colder temperatures like 30 degrees.

The sack that comes with this sleeping bag has a side zipper, which can be difficult at times to close up with this type of bag. This is due to the insulation. Campmor does offer other stuff sacks that are easier to stuff this sleeping bag into. You can find it at http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___48212
