The Backcountry 2 is a freestanding 2 person tent that is roomy and well ventilated. It is easily the most popular 2 person backpacking tent in our retail store. It is a great choice for scouts who are backpacking because it is roomier, lighter and easier to set up than most scout type tents. The large side entry Race Track door makes it easy to to get in and out while the offset door window is right where your head goes for excellent ventilation. Additional ventilation is provided by the closable rear window and roof vent. Other features include a short pack length (15"), aluminum poles and factory sealed main fly and floor seams. Finally as an added bonus the Backcountry has muted green colors that allow the tent to blend into any wooded campsite.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: I need a tent that I can depend on when I am away on canoe trips that last many days. It needs to be robust because if it breaks I suffer. This one should do the trick. I have had good luck with this tent in the past. I guess we will see how this one works out. My old one is for the most part fine, but the door zipper does not work from the inside. Works fine from the outside.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: I bought this tent from Campmor about 10 yrs ago based on the salesman recommendation. I needed a light weight tent for bicycle touring. This tent has seen a dozen week long tours and has stood the test of time. When I came back after a major storm, there was a water mark 1 foot up the wall. I was one of the only tents to remain dry inside. I did seam seal it. It is roomy enough for 1 person. My only wish is to have a vestibule. I highly recommend this tent.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: I buy equipment for our Boy Scout troop. We buy the Timberline Outfitter 4 and 6. The boys can be pretty rough on them but the tents hold their own and we have been very pleased with Eureka.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: We used the tent recently over a weekend that snowed, unexpectedly, for 2 straight days and 12" of snow. We did work to keep excessive snow from building up on top of the tent, and had no problems at all.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: I was appalled at the amount of condesation that built up overnight. The ventilation window was open all way, and that did not help.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: I used the tent for a back-pack/bivouc type of bowhunt and it worked well. It is not the absolute lightest for this type of tent, but is reasonably light, sets up and takes down easily and has plenty of room for one person and gear. I didn't get rained on so I can't comment positively, but my past experience with Eureka tents has been good in that regard.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: Exactly the tent I was looking for. It's hard finding something that packs this small but still has plenty of room for a 6'5" dude and all his gear. There's room for another camper, but not much.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent: This is the perfect tent for motorcycle camping. Lightweight and packs small (and more importantly short) for easy stowage.

Q:
Does this tent have outfitter-quality zippers? I would be buying these for a Scout Troop, so the zippers have to be heavy-duty.1 answer
A:
The Backcountry 2 does not have the same heavy duty zipper as the Outfitter series, but the zipper is still good quality and the Backcountry is a popular backpacking tent because of its design and durability.Q:
How can I get a FOOTPRINT for this tent ?1 answer
A:
We do not have a foot print for the Backcountry. There is a floor saver thoughQ:
Does the mesh door and windows have a full coverage flap to zipper close agaist wind and rain.2 answers
A:
Yes. The window in back is a see thru mesh like screen that has a flap that zips close if you get cold. The door is a two door design. A screen door and a storm door that also can be left part way open if you want a little air or to look out if you want.A:
Both door and window have full storm flaps that fully zip close.Q:
I have heard that one must use seam sealer on new tents. Do I need to really do that, or is it manufactured in such a way that I don't have to worry about that? Thanks.1 answer
A:
The Backcountry 2 has taped floor and fly. So the fly and the floor do not need seam sealing. As for seams around the window and door you may want to seam in the case the tent experiences horizontal rain.Q:
Why is the minimium weight listed as 5 lbs. 6 oz.? I have weighed my Backcountry 2 (tent, fly, poles) in the original sacks on 2 different scales. The weight is 3 lbs 10 oz. I am trying to compare to the Spitfire 1 to see if the weight reduction is worth the tradeoff in space and easier setup of a freestanding tent.1 answer
A:
Minimum weight is tent body poles and fly minus stakes. The Spitfire is lighter but not self supporting at 2 Lb 12 oz.Q:
full coverage rain fly? yes or no.2 answers
A:
Yes and no. The fly covers the whole tent but it has a pole that holds the front above the door and the back above the window out like a porch roof. Lets you get out easily or look out while giving plenty of rain protection. I like mine. It is real easyA:
No, the Eureka Backcountry 2 Tent does not have a full coverage rain fly.Q:
Is the roof mesh to see through?2 answers
A:
The roof vent is a small triangle between the poles and made of mesh like screen. You can see through it to look at stars if thats what you want. It has a storm flap that zips close if you get cold.A:

Tent shopping: I've had a Wenzel tent that was horrible and fell apart way before it should have. Ripping seems, zippers not working. I used to have a Eureka tent that was great...after many uses zippers still worked and no issues.2 answers
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
The important features that a tent needs to be considered a quality tent are:A:
I have the Eureka Backcountry 2 and it is a good solid tent for not alot of money. read my review on it at Campmor. As for the other tent makers, Eureka makes a solid product for low cost but tends to be on the heavy side w/out some extras like a vetibule. I would look at the Kelty Eve 2. Lots of venting, double doors, vestibule. try that. Read reviews often! Often Ultralight gear is more expensive and will not hold up to abuse or is uncomfortable to sleep in. Hope this helps.| CAPACITY | 2 |
