Comments about Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 - 2 Room 12 Person Cabin Style Tent:

I'm a backpacker, but my wife - whose idea of roughing it is a Westin without a pool - decidedly isn't. The one time earlier in the year I'd convinced her to even go car camping at a state park, her biggest complaint was that she felt cramped in the tent (an 8 person dome) when we were stuck inside for a couple of hour long rain shower. I did some research and initially decided on the Cougar Flats II tent, but it appears that it is no longer being produced. While still available, I was concerned about replacement poles, etc, should they be needed in the future. In the process of researching it, I discovered this tent - which is even larger - and decided to give it a try.

We just got it and were able to take it out for a 3 day stint to a state park. Wow, is this thing HUGE! I'm 6'7" and can stand up anywhere in the tent, all the way out to the corners. The tent is well made and surprisingly easy to set up. Since the tent arrived the evening before we were to head out (early the next AM), I didn't bother to set it up at home first. Even so, a friend and I had it completely up in perhaps 15 minutes. We could have it up in 10 or so next time. I could do it by myself in a pinch, but it would take a bit longer; it is really best suited for two people.

The footprint of the tent is considerable, and it very nearly didn't fit on the raised pad we were required to use in the state park. We were on one of the larger sites intended for trailers, too; I could easily see it not fitting on one of the smaller sites. The tent weighs quite a lot as well, but not unreasonably so; when you buy a tent the size of a small condo, you have to expect it is going to weigh a few pounds.

Overall, I am very pleased with my selection. I have only two complaints about the tent:

First, the awning is not particularly sturdy and is, in my opinion, pretty well useless. It is too small and too high to be useful for much in the way of shelter, and it doesn't attach to the tent in such a way as to prevent water from coming down between the awning and the tent. I would be surprised if it didn't actually collect rain based on its design. Fortunately, I didn't buy the tent for the awning, nor did it really factor into my decision at all; I simply removed it and its poles from my tent to lighten the considerable load a little bit. Having said that, it may be a factor for some others.

The other issue is a little bigger deal for me, and a much bigger one for my wife: The divider in the tent is not really useful for privacy. It is pretty sheer, and attaches to the walls in such a way as to leave a few inch gap all the way around it. We were hoping for more privacy between the two sides. With older kids it would be nice to have a little privacy available when changing, etc.

In general, I would purchase the tent again without hesitation. It was big enough for two king sized air mattresses with plenty of room to spare for all our stuff and room to move around comfortably to boot. If you need a really big, well built tent, this certainly fits the bill.

Comments about Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 - 2 Room 12 Person Cabin Style Tent:

Easy to set up after first time. Floor is a little flimsy. Used a heavy duty tarp inside and underneath it. Very, very heavy rains caused the floor to get just slightly wet but we had about 3 inches in a couple hours so still pretty good. Front fly that goes over the door area does not secure very well. We ended up just taking it off. Tent bag is pretty heavy but this is because of the poles. They are heavy duty. Love this tent. Fit 3 queen mattresses in it with extra room for gear. 4 queen mattresses could be done but would be very tight. Highly recommend this tent.

Comments about Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 - 2 Room 12 Person Cabin Style Tent:

You definitely want to set it up in your yard before going into the wild. The manual is not that good and it will takes a while and some common sense to build it.
It took me about an hour, alone. I suggest 2 persons though, then it should be done in under 30 min.
The poles are very heavy, but I was aware of that and will use the tent for family camping near my truck. Don't expect carrying that thing more than a half mile.
Due the heaviness of the poles the according back tear immediately. This bag looks like a one-use solution and you should get a replacement (funny: Eureka offers a pole-carry bag on their homepage, they must be aware of the cr_ap they put in the box.) But that is not a deal-breaker, I have the gear in boxes anyway.

Set up, the tent is indeed the largest I have seen, 2 separate rooms, and enough head-space for me to even jump.
The floor is a bad idea, it is the same material like the walls, so you have to put a tard under and into the tent for protection.

    It is basically
    room+price vs. weight+quality

Knowing the few disadvantages before, I am pretty happy with it and hope it will last some years.

We have been very happy with this tent so far! It was extremely easy to set up, even in very high winds! It also kept us dry in one day of rain. We had one king size air mattress on one side of the tent and 4 twin air mattresses on the other. The 4 twins didn't leave room to walk in between them, but enough room at the end of them to get out to the doors. Definitely more comfortable with just 3 twins, but we were happy we could squeeze the 4!

Comments about Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 - 2 Room 12 Person Cabin Style Tent:

The overall product seems to be good. Their are several design issues that could have been worked differently. For Example, long connected poles through cross braced sleeves is cumbersome to erect and take down. Clips would work much better. Be sure to stake the tent down properly in wind as the fly can turn into a sail and create incredible uplift. I hope this tent lasts for years, but the strain on the connections and seams lead me to keeping my fingers crossed.

This tent is more like a cabin. We took it to lake Tahoe for the weekend and it had plenty of room for our family of 5. I was able to lay everything out and still have room. It dropped to 35 deg. at night and kept us warm. During the day the tempTure rose to 85 deg. and all the screens helped keep it cool inside.

The poles are heavy duty and sturdy. This ten is excellent and I would recommend it to a friend who is car camping.

        Thanks
        Domenick

Great Tent - We set it up at family gatherings for kids to sleep in. There were over 20 kids one night.

Make sure you follow the awning instructions when it rains or you may end up with water in the tent.

        We are pleased!

            A:

All floor and fly seams are taped. The floor and fly are water proofed with 1200 mm of coating. This makes the Copper Canyon very waterproof. You would need to seam seal the wall seams where the wall meets the floor to provide water proof seams.
