Comments about Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent:

I don't quite understand some of the negative reviews on this tent. I have used high end 4 season tents by Sierra Designs, Mountain Hardwear and others for many years and this is one of my favourites. I have had no problems with the fly, condensation or other issues some have mentioned. The build quality seems good in my opinion.

I've used this a good deal in the Cascades and Coast range (Canada) for solo backpacking. A touch heavy for solo use, but in the same range as similar tents by SD and others which can handle the same conditions.

I like the fact that you can use this tent in almost any conditions. It is strong, sturdy and warm when you have everthing zipped up, but can be used in fairly hot weather as there is a lot of mesh which can be opened up.

An unusal design which takes a few minutes to set up the first time, but pretty quick after that.

I would not use this for K2 or the desert in mid-summer, but fine for pretty much everything else.

Often camp in snow at high altitudes (above 10,000'). Looked seriously at North Face, Marmot, Mountain Hardwear, and they all seem very similar in quality. Why pay 3-4 times as much? This tent is exactly what I was looking for. Great quality at a great price.

Comments about Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent:

Used in 30 deg. weather with light snow and light wind on sandy ground. I thought the materials were thin and did not retain much heat. I found the rain fly contacted the tent wall in a few places even when it was properly staked, which can allow water to leak in. I also thought the fly was too far off the ground, ~6in. When I took it down I found small damp spots over most of the floor although I used a tarp. I felt the door was not large enough, and the front vestibule was not large enough for my gear and did not cover it adequately. On the positive side, I think the pole structure is very sturdy, straightforward set up, good construction and function of zippers, and it is light weight. Overall, compared to my anticipation and expectations it was smaller than I anticipated, it could have a thicker or better floor, more substantial windproof side material, and better fly design so it doesn't contact the tent and has more room and better coverage for gear in the vestibule. Probably best for backpacking where weight is a more important factor, and use w/ a good sleeping bag!

Comments about Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent:

On a motorcycle trip to the four corners of the continental US I camped 26 nights out of 67. What I liked most about the Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent was the ease of setup and breakdown. In windy conditions just stake down one corner and it's still a snap to set up. I got to where I could setup or break down the tent in less than ten minuets. It is truly a four seasons tent as I camped in temperatures from the low 30's in Carson City to mid 90's in Florida. Though next time I might bring a battery-powered fan for the hot nights.

I read the reviews of others before buying this tent and they were correct in their assessment. It is cramped for one person and their gear. There is some gear you just don't want to leave out under the fly like clothes. I found if I stored my gear by the opening and slipped with my head at the other end I had enough room. The fly worked well keeping my boots and non-fabric stuff dry. I didn't have any issue with condensation as other reported but I always opened at least one of the ceiling vents.

Comments about Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent:

I purchased this tent for winter camping in the southeast where the biggest potential issue is heavy winds. I experienced a full night of strong gusts during the first trip. Tent performed well and held up to the >40 mph winds. The rain fly was a little loud beating the sides of the tent but the wind alone was loud. The previous night was constant rain and tent kept me and my gear dry. So based on the first and only trip, the 2XT met expectations. This is not a 2 man tent unless the other person is your significant other.

Comments about Eureka Alpenlite 2XT Tent:

I bought this based on others positive comments and "3-4 Season rating"

      Big disappointment!

Two of my boys in an Apex 2XT camped on the same ground as I was.
In the morning, The Alpenlite XT floor had wicked moisture through the floor of the tent, my sleeping bag was very damp and moisture pooled where ever pressure was applied.

The kids Apex tent floor was totally dry. (and it cost me 1/4 the price of the Alpenlite.

The fly kept the sides dry, but I would expect at a minimum, that this tent would provide some level of water resistance in the floor - without needing a ground sheet?

Sucks to have to carry extra ground cover, so I'II be using the cheaper Apex 2XT for the time being.

Also, being 6'2", this is not an ideal tent size if you want room to sleep diagonally and room for your gear.

Hmmm, maybe I just got the dud one that didnt get a water proof base treatment?
