The Backcountry 1 is a freestanding solo tent that is roomy and well ventilated. The large side entry Race Track door makes it easy to get in and out while the offset door window is right where your head goes for excellent ventilation. Either end of the tent is mesh so you get ventilation and stargazing. Other features include a short pack size (15.5 in. x 6 in.), aluminum poles and factory sealed main fly and floor seams. Finally as an added bonus the Backcountry 1's muted green colors allow the tent to blend into any wooded campsite.

Best Uses Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: I have not taken this tent out for use yet, but the setup in my living room was very simple even without any instructions as mine had come. The last tent I purchased 12 years ago weighted in at over 8 pounds making the Backcountry 1 a feather weight in comparison which is what I was looking for to use on an upcoming self supported trans-american bike tour. The Backcountry 1 folds easily and is small enough to fit well in a pannier with room left for a light sleeping bag next to it. I was also looking for a freestanding tent and this one I believe will work well for my wants and needs. Assembly took me less than 10 minutes on the first try out of the box. Plenty of room for me, 5'11", and my 10 lb dog. May not have much room for all my gear, but should be able to stow the important stuff while sleeping. For the price I like what I got.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: Overall a really nice one man tent. Weight is good and reasonable and its a little bigger than most one man tents. I also REALLY like the side entry door that most one mant tents do NOT have. I am tall, 6' 3" so this is helpful. However, being tall, I am a little disappointed about the headroom in the tent. I expected to be able to sit cross legged in my tent and my head not hit the top of the tent... it does. (But my fault for not somehow measuring "how tall" I am when I am sitting down. ;) It is a minor complaint, but a few more inches tall in the center would be nice. I have one other minor complaint... there is no "Cover" for your backpack outside the tent... I have another Eureka 2-man tent that I LOVE! But It has has some extra room on the fly that can cover your gear if it rains. Seems that if this tent had that feature, this tent would be almost perfect!

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: This is one of the few 1-person tents on the market which is roomy enough for a large tall man. (I am 6' 5" tall and 210 lb.)

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: we went backpacking at Cheaha Mt and i bought this for my daughter to carry. its lightweight and simple enough for her to set up on her own. the winds on the mountain was holding steady at 25 mph with gust up to 40. this tent did not budge.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: I have not had this out in the wild yet. I'm planning a trip... I set it at the house to try it out. It set up in under 5 min. I wanted to see if it would repack to the same small size that it came: it did.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: My favorite tent for its small pack-size, ease of set-up & take-down, and good performance in wet, windy and/or buggy conditions. Fits easily into backpack or saddlebags. Roomy enough (both floor-space & headroom) for myself & backpack or motorcycle luggage bags (used as headrest), and to change clothes. No vestibule for cooking space during rains means separate tarp sometimes required. Minor condensation present during very humid conditions; otherwise good ventilation. Muted green color very pleasant and eye-friendly in natural environs. Easy entry & exit thru large door; good views thru well-placed window. Fairly lightweight, but favors comfort over ultralight status (i.e. nice shelter in long rains/buggy conditions; get a good night's sleep).

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: Use for the first time 20 mile overnight hike. I sealed the seams before I went thank goodness. It rained all night so it passed the test nice and dry. Make sure you get the corner stakes they are not included.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: This is my third Backcountry I tent. It's a great tent in almost every respect -- except one. And that exception is significant. I gave this tent a rave review last year when I purchased my second, awarding it five stars. But this past year, in areas I hadn't visited earlier with this particular tent, I encountered a design flaw which now prompts me to knock the Backcountry I down to four stars (and I could persuade myself to reduce it yet another star). I live a vagabond life and sleep out just about every night, year round, all over the US and in any kind of weather. I got fifteen months use out of my first Backcouuntry I, but only six out of my second. Both zippers failed early. Trouble began early in the high desert around Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I lingered from mid-April to mid-May. It was an unusually dry and windy spring, blowing a lot of grit and dust around even through the night (which is the only time I pitch my tent). It didn't take long for the zippers to start snagging, despite my efforts to keep the track clean. I got out to the west coast with both zippers mostly still working, but the track had a couple damaged links. Then, a couple months later in a Montana national Park, where rains fell frequently and hard during July, fine grit from tent sites splashed up on the lower section of the zipper track. By the time I headed out again the lower zipper no longer worked. The upper one failed a couple weeks later. While waiting for a new Backcountry to arrive in the mail, I slept for a week in a box store tent costing twenty bucks -- which had a lip over its entire zipper track. Still, I got another Backcountry I because it really is in every other way the best tent I've ever owned (and I now use a couple clothespins to hold a trashcan liner over the track in the occasional situation where blowing sand or splashing grit is likely to make for snagging and jamming zippers). But I can no longer recommend this tent without reservation or qualification. It really needs a lip over the zipper track.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: This is a nearly perfect backpacker's tent. It will set up in a VERY small space (between rocks, roots, etc.) My family has several of them, used by different hikers/bikers. They hold up well and have always kept the user dry in rain.

Comments about Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent: I had the Eureka Backcountry 2-person tent before and loved it. So easy to set up, plenty of space, the gear loft is a great plus. I wish it came with the 1-person tent instead of having to order it separately. Obviously this is not an ultra-lightweight tent (or meant for extreme weather), but for one person doing an easy backcountry hike or car camping, it's the perfect blend of function and convenience for me. I also appreciate the side door for easy enter/exit.

Eureka Backcountry 1 Tent would have aluminum poles for cold weather. There are not enough poles to provide enough support for heavy wet snow though.| CAPACITY | 1 |
