Comments about Equinox 10 ft. x 10 ft. Versatile Nylon Tarp:

I have used the tarp alone for shelter while camping and as a fly at the beach. I use mine on most of my trips and carry it along on the rest. I lost one tie down from poor set up and a large amount of rain collected. Easy to repair with a piece of cord. So far I like it for day tips, back packing, motorcycle camping, truck camping, hunting and fishing. I have an extra in my go-pack.

Comments about Equinox 10 ft. x 10 ft. Versatile Nylon Tarp:

I have used this tarp up for decades as my primary shelter, in desert, mountain, jungle, arctic, and woodland. I carry it with six pins, 1x18', 2x8', and 2x5' paracord lines. It pitches to suit the space and environment, whether wide open lean-to for space or a tight pyramid for bug control. One is limited only by imagination. It tore once, in a 75 mph tropical typhoon in the South Pacific, but I repaired it myself with a piece of old poncho and some seam sealer. Be careful with the ties--they are okay, but can pull off if pulled too sharply.

Tore a tie string off in less than 5 minutes first time I set it up. Replaced the corner ties with webbing loops that I sewed on and stitched must stronger than the way it came. Expect it will be just fine now. Easy fix, but they could have done this at the manufacturer.

Used it while canoe camping as cooking leanto in the wind and as a gathering place for packing gear while breaking camp in a heavy rain. Have also used as a picknic table rain fly and a tent fly. Like the tie straps...over time gromets have frequently pulled out, the straps have not. Also the straps along the center are a great feature for giving many options for setting the fly up. Has held up well for us.

I liked the product except I felt the Tie downs were not strongly attached to the fabric. I was hesitant to tie my ropes strongly thinking that they might tear the tie-downs off. I would prefer reinforced grometts.

Comments about Equinox 10 ft. x 10 ft. Versatile Nylon Tarp:

Ordered this in preparation for a BWCA trip with plans to use it as a dining or gear canopy. Initial inspection showed no problems as I was mainly interested in the integrity of the ties. We ended up using it as a gear cover set up as a modified lean-to. No problem to set up with two people helping-could be tricky by yourself in windy conditions because of the size. It wasn't until we got it up that I discovered a small hole, just a couple millimeters in size, right in the middle of the tarp. Looked like it was some remnant of the manufacturing process, like a punch hole. Not a big deal for our use, but potentially irritating right over your hammock or camp kitchen in the middle of a downpour. It will be a simple fix with seam seal or duct tape-just nice not to have to fix a brand new tarp. Other than that it performed well, packed down pretty small to fit in a portage pack, and the tie-downs held up well in some fairly windy conditions.

Used as the rain cover for my camping hammock during weeklong backpacking excursion and it provided excellent coverage and protection against the rain and wind. It is versatile with the numerous ties that are placed all over for various configurations. Best rain cover/ tarp for the price that is out there!

I have used this tarp on a couple backpacking trips where we hammock camped. With all the ties, it is easy to set up. I was able to tie on side up so I had a porch and when I went to sleep I stacked that corner to the ground for protection. I have used it during thunderstorms and I was the only person in our group that did not get wet.

Weight says 2lb 6oz. Is that correct? That seems heavy. Because I have a $10 8ftx10ft cheap poly tarp that is 1lb 10oz.

                A:

The weight is correct. Your smaller tarp is lighter due to the smaller size. If you want to lower the weight and have a similar tarp look at the ultralight tarp.
