Comments about Texsport Metal Frame Cot:

This is the only cot you could even think of bringing backpacking
Have been using this cot for more than ten years
Being an Eagle Scout, I never had trouble setting it up, but all you need is a little strength to force cloth over each end
As far as tearing the cloth, the seams may fray, but the cloth itself is solid
And for those who are worried about setting it up, its no harder than figuring out how to assemble a new tent
Great for the comfort backpacker who doesn't have to far to hike

I intend to give it away if the person I give it to can assemble it. I called the mfg and they said you just have to stretch the fabric. But I can't.

Comments about Texsport Metal Frame Cot:

I wanted a lightweight cot to get off the ground while camping. This is not it. The fabric is impossible to stretch over the poles. There is an area in the center that is very uncomfortable with extra material. It sags even though I only weigh 150 lbs. Unfortunately I can't send it back because I hacksawed about a 1/2 inch off the poles to make the fabric fit.

              I consider m self a handyman, I'm a mechanic for a living.
This cot looked good for the price. I tried to set it up, get familiar with it before our weeklong camping trip. It was extremely difficult to stretch the fabric over the rails, even with tools. When I did finally get it together, my 8 yr old daughter laid down on it and it tore. My advice is to pass this up and look for something else.

Would you reccommend this cot for an extended trip? I.e. 3-10 days at a time? Im considering treking thru Glacier for a week and then maybe month long portions of the A.T. and I wondered if this would be a plus or minus for the trek....

I would say that this cot would be way too heavy for an AT trip. However if you were horse packing this cot would work.
