Took on hikes in White Mountains. Worked OK, but jammed in open position and could not be collapsed. Also, the tip came off too easily and had to be replaced often. Would not recommend for even the casual enthusiast.

I am 83 and used this hiking pole on my trip to Spain. It gave me greater stability. It fit in my suitcase. Would like to know if I could carry it in my hand to go through security when only using a carry on bag.

Comments about Greenland Sales Ltd. Chinook Walkabout 3 Staff:

My son and I each used one of these for our recent trip to the Bighorn Mountains (Cloud Peak Wilderness). I wish that I would've purchased two more, so we could have each had a pair. They worked great for the intended purpose with only two issues: The baskets kept coming loose, and the shock absorb feature would turn off while I was using it. Shock Absorb turns on by twisting the shaft slightly, and I must twist my hand while I'm using the staff, because it would turn off occasionally. We lost the rubber tips in a marshy area, too. During steep descents and creek crossings we really appreciated these!

How sturdy/supportive are these twist-adjust segments? I have another brand's similar item that had to be relegated to use solely as a monopod, because if I tried to lean much of my not-inconsiderable weight on it, using it as a supportive walking stick, the *flip-lock* quick-adjust segments would simply slowly collapse, *sliding* toward the compressed/closed position.

The internal hub in my experience is less secure than the flick locks. I would instead look at a shock corded trekking pole that is a fixed length thus not able to slip or give way.

Can the carbide tip be replaced? On my Mother's staff after months of use, the carbide apparently fell out and the aluminum housing has since been damaged. We would like to get a replacement tip, but don't know which part can be replaced (carbide and aluminum, ~3" black plastic tip with carbide and aluminum, or entire lower staff segment). In a camping store, we found a replacement for the ~3" black plastic tip with carbide and aluminum, meant for a different brand, which looks like it might fit. However, we don't know whether this part will fit, nor how to remove the original tip. Please let us know how to properly repair her staff.

Generally when replacing a carbide tip you remove it from the bottom section and add the new tip to the bottom section. The Chinook does not have this feature thus the tip is not replace able
