Use this staff to provide extra support for short hikes on level ground following recent hip replacement surgery. Excellent for that purpose.I'm putting a good deal of weight on it and it shows no evidence of weakness. Can be a little difficult to change adjustment for length, however.

Comments about Greenland Sales Ltd. Chinook Walkabout 3 Staff:

On my last Ozark backpack, I realized that I am at an age where a pole or staff is a necessity (and I can't always find a good natural stick). I wanted a staff, but didn't want to pay alot. This fit the bill. It is easy to adjust, the grip is good even when steady and seems very durable (after a couple of backpacking trips experience). The strap was cheap and uncomfortable, so I took it off and it works better without. A great purchase!

I've use this walking stick several times now and have found it plenty stong for even my 265lb size. You can probably buy a better walking stick, but you'll pay 2 to 3 time the amount.

I had never used a hiking pole prior to my recent trip in Antartica but am very glad I obtained this pole for use during my trip. It helped me keep my balance when walking over bolders, icy ground, up steep hills and down icy slopes, and through inches of penguin manure during zodiac stops in Antartica. I would not have felt nearly as confident navigating without the pole. It was easy to carry--even when boarding the zodiac--and fit inside my suitcase for transport.

Bought 3 as gifts. Not quite good as the same one I got about 5 years ago. The old one had a thinner strap with a pad on it. But very good. The old one has been up Half Dome and on a few multi-day backpacking trips and has held up fine. On the Half Dome trip it saved me from a fall several times as my knee was giving out.

Can the carbide tip be replaced? On my Mother's staff after months of use, the carbide apparently fell out and the aluminum housing has since been damaged. We would like to get a replacement tip, but don't know which part can be replaced (carbide and aluminum, ~3" black plastic tip with carbide and aluminum, or entire lower staff segment). In a camping store, we found a replacement for the ~3" black plastic tip with carbide and aluminum, meant for a different brand, which looks like it might fit. However, we don't know whether this part will fit, nor how to remove the original tip. Please let us know how to properly repair her staff.

Generally when replacing a carbide tip you remove it from the bottom section and add the new tip to the bottom section. The Chinook does not have this feature thus the tip is not replace able
