I've been wearing Hi-Tecs since they made it into N. America. The fit is classic Hi-Tec if a bit wide. The Vibram outsoles are excellent.Even though it is a given that there is no such animal as a truly 'waterproof' boot these are quite a bit less than that. The waterproofing sems to be only a light coating on the outside of the upper - it is easily scuffed off on rocks which leaves the wearer wearing an water absorbant boot. This boot needs to be treated witn Snowseal, Nikwax, etc to keep it 'waterproof'. The toe bumper has separated from the rest of the boot but with a liberal application of ShoeGoo and some creative bracing it seems o.k. now. With regular care this boot works as well as any other comfortable Hi-Tec boot.

great looking boot and reasonably comfortable. definitely waterproof. if you are going to wear with heavy socks, i would order 1/2 size larger than you would typically wear.

Used to own this brand a few years ago, it was available then in wide width which was much wider than the one I purchased this time. Other than that, it's a great boot.

Suggest mink oil application prior to using and after each trip.Comes with good laces(does not require any retying during hikes).I will never purchase any hiking footwear that doesn't have a vibram sole.I did test the waterproof feature when new in an urban setting and was able to stay dry during rain and walking thru deep puddles up to 30 ft in lenth.Was and probobly still is best price to be found.

Two of us hiked 750km across Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic. I walked the first half in a pair of Hi-tec Altitude IVs and they performed faultlessly after being seam sealed to protect the stitching. The Vs performed well also as far as ruggedness was concerned but I wasnt convinced about the waterproofing system. They often seemed to let in water after walking on wet ice, although we usually ended getting the boots soaked anyway when crossing streams. When this happened they seemed to take a long time to dry out. In addition the seamsealer would not stay on the boots , something to do with the chemical waterproofing. For a lightweight boot with a relatively strong rugged sole I highly recommend the Altitude IVs.
