I have used this for years on my running gear and base materials, and it does an adequate job of cleaning my gear and maintaining the absorbancy of the material.

Regarding "the funk", I have a couple of garments that have "the funk" and this does not remove it. Of course, those garments are 15 years old (Yes, that's right 15 years). And I only notice "the funk" after I lay down a heavy dose of sweat in 80 degree+ weather. Of course, these garments also have begun to separate at the crotch seams, so maybe the issue is age, and not detergent.
