I've been trail running with these for about a month now and they're my favorite shoes I've used to date. I had another pair of barefoot shoes previously that were starting to get shredded on the trails and didn't mask the rocks at all. The rock block in these spyridons works awesome. You really have to land on a spike to feel it. The grip is crazy and has held up to intense mud testing. Be careful because the treads will actually tear your carpet. All in all, great upgrade from the KSO and treksport.

The tread, arch protector and full protected toe fronts are good.

The tongue and laces gave me blisters on top of my foot. The laces were already too tight for my feet, so there's obviously no need for them. The tongue collects mud and bunches up (hence the blisters). If they just kept the stretch fabric of the Trek KSO, these would be an improvement, but as is I wouldn't buy them again.

Also, why do trail running shoes need so much reflective surface? Seems like an excuse to add bells and whistles to charge more (or to sell to people who don't trail run). Maybe that's why the tongue too, as it makes them easier to put on.

The full neoprene front has pros and cons, (pros-warmer, cons-warmer). I prefer the better ventilation / drainage of the Trek KSO.
