Reviewed by 7 customers Sort by Displaying reviews 1-7 Comments about Danner Talus GTX Waterproof Hiking Boot - Wide Width: I had high hopes for these boots, classic style, full rubber rand, leather and Gore-tex. I wear a 13W in most boots, sometimes a 14D depends on the shape of the forefoot. More rounded toe boots I'll wear a 13W, pointier toebox a 14D ( my toes kinda splay a bit ). These boots are for someone with massive - think elephant - ankles. The width of the forefoot in the 13W was fine, but the ankle and heel area was truly massive. I returned the 13W's and ordered the 14D. The 14D's fit snugger but didn't securely hold my heel down. I tried different lacing techniques but no matter what I tried my heal had excessive lift. So I returned the 14D's too. They appear to be very rugged boots, they just didn't fit my foot. Pros

Best Uses Comments about Danner Talus GTX Waterproof Hiking Boot - Wide Width: I actually bought these as a replacent for a pair of Danner's combat hikers that I had wore out and wanted the hook style eyelets. Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Danner Talus GTX Waterproof Hiking Boot - Wide Width: Great boot - waterproof, warm, and comfortable. Vibram sole did show wear after two years of significant use, then they got ripped off in Costa Rica, so I bought a new pair.

Comments about Danner Talus GTX Waterproof Hiking Boot - Wide Width: These boots appear to be well made and very durable. That being said, beware, that the heel cup of these boots are extra large. So unless you have very fat ankles this boot could be a problem. They work for me due to a nueroma in my foot, however, I still have to wear extra thick socks and inserts in the boot. Also, these boots are made in China, however, they seem to be well constructed.

Best Uses Comments about Danner Talus GTX Waterproof Hiking Boot - Wide Width: Im torn about the boots. They have everything and then some going for them with the exception of the one fatal flaw. The area from the middle of the foot to the heel is rediculously big. I mean BIG!!! No matter what I tried, different socks or different lacing techniques, my heels jump around more than you could imagine. I know it's a wide size but that means in the toe box not throughout the whole stinkin boot. I found myself exceedingly disappointed mostly by the fact that if it weren't for the bad design around the heel these boots would be the best I've ever encountered. I mean it too. If you have tree trunks for ankles then you will love these boots. if you don't though I absolutely cannot recommend these. With the exception of the heel these are the most well put together boots I've ever worn. These are some rough and tumble boots that you would have to deliberately try to damage in order to succeed.
Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Danner Talus GTX Waterproof Hiking Boot - Wide Width: I have always bought Danner boots and these are the best boots I've purchased to date.

Merchant response: In circumstances like this where the fit in the toe box is great but the heel is too loose, you can use a heel insert. Danner has a heel insert that they send with some of their boots called an airthotic. You can get a pair by calling Danner at 800-345-0430
