  • Q:

How tall is this shoe compared to the low boot model of "5 inch from base of heel"? How does this "lacing system" work? I like my shoes tied snug. Is that a light purple as secondary color? Thanks, elli

The Women's Merrell Siren Sport 2 Waterproof Hiking Shoe Wide Width has a height of 4" from the sole to the top of the back of the heel.. The lacing system is your standard lace up shoe that you would draw down snug and tie. The secondary color is a light purple or light periwinkle.

  • Q:

I can normally only wear New Balance shoes due to my wide feet/bunions. I have tried Lowe Renegades and LL Bean hiking shoes, both in wide. The Lowe's killed me, especially in the toe box. The LLBean's are fairly comfortable, but don't quite accommodate my right bunion, so they aren't optimum. What I do like about them is the great traction in their lug soles, and the rubber toe box. They are too heavy for summer use however. I am looking for summer hikers that are lightweight and water-resistant. I am very reluctant to try non-New Balance. Could you tell me if these Merrell's would compare?

These shoes may not be wide enough for your toe box, especially considering the bunions. You may also take a look at a pair offered by Vasque. You can find them at
