Comments about Asolo Men's TPS 535 Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

I have ben considering the ASOLO line for some time. I decided on the 535's, as opposed to the 520's, because Gore Tex tends to make my feet too moist after even short periods. Because of the one piece leather construction and the absence of seams, the 535's are water-resistant enough for my uses. I've worn them in heavy snow during the New England snowfalls of the past month and they have proven themselves to be excellent in traction, water repellency, and warmth. My former boots(Italian made Sundowners) were just not as pleasantt to wear as these. I discarded them because the leather interior began to break down, causing pain and aggravation. The Asolos haven't needed a break-in, but they seem to be getting better every day.

Comments about Asolo Men's TPS 535 Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

I bought my pair of 535s back in 2003. During the break-in period I almost had blisters but I was ready for it as one should with all heavy leather hiking boots. After a year it was well broken in and I have had it eversince.

I have used these boots from multi-day backcountry trips in the mountains, forests, over rocky terrain, streams, over ridges, in snow (with gaiters), airsoft, or just a plain Friday end-of-workweek wear. These pair has held up well. Very little wear on Vibram soles after 10 years. Very excellent ankle support and protection over rocks, morraine, campfire, doesn't get damp inside when walking across ankle-deep streams or snow. It also provides a bit of insulation during cold winter weather. I fit ice-stabilizers(Yaktrax) over it when walking on icy surfaces or snow.

I call it my "tank boots" and I would highly recommend to anyone including military/law enforcement personnel to compare it with their mass-produced, government-issued boots (I have all types at home). The price for the boots I bought has doubled from the time I bought my pair. Nowadays, the Asolo 535 would be similarly priced to high end hiking boots and military boots but the quality, durability, stability, comfort and protection after several years is well worth the price!

Comments about Asolo Men's TPS 535 Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

I've had these boots for three years and nary a problem in varied conditions. While clearing a trail and heavy brush, one boot developed a hole in the sole. But that was my fault as I was using the boot as a hammer. Even with the holy sole these are still the best boots of any I've owned.

Comments about Asolo Men's TPS 535 Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

My fourth pair of this model. Two of them developed incipient sole separation, the first replaced at no charge by Asolo, the second replaced by Campmor at no charge.

Other than that, I wore out the other two with no break-in and no blisters. One recent trip was sloppy wet for a full day, and my feet stayed dry for all but the last few hours.

BTW, I Snow Seal the boots EVERY time I get back, be it from a 2 hour walk or a ten day excursion. I also switch to Kevlar laces, which ends all lace problems.

Hope Asolo never 'improves' this model, and continues to make them until I can't walk anymore.

I'm a professional forester and biologist. I spend a lot of time in the field, inspecting harvest sites and working in the woods. Also, an avid outdoorsman. Hot or cold, wet or arid, these boots can take it. If there's a downside to these boots, it's that they can be hot in the summer. They are not for the occassional weekender due to their initial stiffness which goes away with normal break-in - thereafter, they fit like a glove while providing excellent ankle support. This is my fourth pair of Asolos and will continue to buy them. A pair usually lasts me about 4 to 5 years of very tough wear-n-tear.

Comments about Asolo Men's TPS 535 Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

I had the original version of these, they lasted 12 years! As a weekend and occasional week long backpacker, I did over 500 miles with these. My feet never hurt half as much as with other brands. What finally did them in was the 3rd year of abusing them as construction boots. Even then I considered getting them re-soled, as the uppers were still in good shape. Once they are broken in, they fit like a glove and last forever! I will not have another brand on my feet.

Has a Vibram outersole, which tends to be gripper than most manufacturer's outersoles. Always exercise caution, no outersole is slip proof.

I have been doing a lot of research to find a boot that is comfortable and that will last a long time. Many reviewers of these boots say they are on their 3rd or 4th pair of these. This tells me either they are hiking 20 miles every day in these or they simply do not last that long. How many miles should I expect to get out of these boots before they fall apart?

                    A:

Actually what you are seeing is that reviewers like this boot and this boot have been in the Asolo line for a long time. So these reviewers are coming back to purchase more of these. Mileage depends on terrain. Very rocky terrain you will get less mileage out of, though I would say you can expect hundreds of miles on a sole if taken care of.

A goretex boot can actually be submerged in water without leaking. A water resistant boot will not hold up to full immersion in the water. Treating them with Snowseal will make them almost entirely waterproof.
