These boots were great right out of the box! I laced them up and in two days took them on a 2 day 16 mile hike through some rocky rugged terrain in PA. I will admit, I was a little concerned about the break in (I never really broke them in). My right foot got a little "warm" in one spot but after that they were great! NO blisters. Since then I have only wore them on three other hikes and they have gotten more comfortable with each step. Good ankle support and they seem to keep my feet warmer in colder weather than my old boots did. Will never own a piece of Merrell footwear again. Get these boots, you will not be disappointed.

Excellent boots. I've had mind for 5 years and have hiked many miles and backpacked quite a few. Required very little breakin and there is enough ankle support for medium and occassional heavy loads if you are on trail or as long as the off trail isn't too bad. I backpacked with 50-70# packs over rocky terrain and never once felt like this boot was giving up. These are not super heavy full grain leather boots but the stability and comfort are amazing. As long as the water doesn't spill in from the top they will remain dry if you step in a shallow creek. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a minimal breakin boot that can survive some rough use.

I especially suggest that all of you full grain guys give this a real look. I too was skeptical that it could hold up and provide adequate support with a heavy pack but they can and they do. I paid about30% less than the current list price but knowing what I know, I would pay the full price.

I use a 2 sock system and like all boots you want a very snug fit. I can honestly say I've never had a blister with these boots and I can not say that about any other boot I've owned. I've used them in NM, Arizona and Utah heat and also in snow covered trails in the mountains around Salt Lake City.

So far I have thoroughly enjoyed these boots. Little to no break in time required. I wore these boots around the house for about a week before taking them on a 3 day 28 mile hike. Said hike was in northern Pennsylvania and it rained the first day... all day. Just about everything was soaked, except my feet. These boots are also very comfortable, but I do have rather narrow feet. However, the soles may be a little stiff for some. I did not have any of the traction problems that I have read in other reviews.

These boots really are the best thing I've ever worn on my feet.

I bought my first pair back in 2007.

Since then, I've purchased this boot in every color scheme available.

How could a boot, worn for 1.5 years, all-day, everyday, look exactly the same as a boot brand-new out-of-the-box?

These boots felt like slippers from the day they came in the mail. As an avid backpacker and committed section hiker, I can seriously say these are the best boots I have ever owned. They are still like new after several years of abuse.
