Appy Trails Mark III 2-3 Person Tent

Item #: 10020

Our Price: $99.95

The Appy Trails Mark III tent is an ultralight weight hiker's dream come true. It will sleep 1 - 3 people in comfort and weighs so little that you will find yourself going farther each day. It has no floor so you can use whatever ultralight weight ground cover you want or nothing at all. Because it has no floor it has great ventilation. The coated polyester fabric is waterproof and is a muted green color to blend into the woods if you are looking for a stealth camp. Set up can be either with the supplied poles, your trekking poles, branches found along the way or you can suspend it from a tree for a poleless ultralight shelter.
  • Sleeps 1-3 people
  • Single-wall design boasts low weight, while its single center pole architecture creates a stable and tight structure
  • Built in vestibule area in the door
  • The fabric is ideal for single-wall tents, not water repellent but water proof coated polyester, T190
  • Setup with included lightweight aluminum poles or leave them behind and use branches found at the site, a trekking pole or even suspend it from a tree
  • Tensioned fabric makes the tent quiet in heavy winds.
  • Stuffsack slightly oversized for ease of stuffing. Compression instructions included
  • Comes with stakes, stake bag, guylines, stuff sack, instruction/care card, information sheet
  • Included poles pack in your wand pocket or on the side of your pack
  • All seams factory sealed
  • Import.
  • Fire Retardant.

Comments about Appy Trails Mark III 2-3 Person Tent:

Used this for the first time backpacking with our Boy Scout troop last weekend in Big Sur. Used it with Tyvek ground cloth for two nights. Performed excellently. I will enjoy using this tent on several upcoming backpacking trips in the coming months, to include 12 nights at Philmont, NM in July. Great ultralight tent at a reasonable price!

Comments about Appy Trails Mark III 2-3 Person Tent:

Purchased this to use bikepacking & backpacking since you can pitch with the included poles (bikepacking) or with trekking poles (backpacking). Unfortunantly, I had to return it due to 3 grommets starting to pull out of the fabric after 2 nights of use and the lesser issue of stress risers in the fabric when setup. Also didn't like the fact that you have to stake it to the ground, thus preventing cross circulation and contributing to condensation build up even with the door open.
Size wise, we were able to fit 2 normal size guys (5.10 & 6.2) inside with 2 packs and scattered gear at the head of the shelter. It is a little tight & low at the foot end which will wet out your sleeping bag if condensation builds up inside the shelter. Also, only one at a time inside to arrange gear and unless you're really small, like child size, you won't fit comfortably in the "vestibule" area as shown in the capacity pictures. we used 2 trekking poles in place of the poles.
With a few mods, this could be a really good shelter. it needs grommet reinforcement on BOTH sides, guyline tie outs, and really, really needs to be made in Tennessee where the QC can be tighter. Those things would be worth the extra weight and cost.

Comments about Appy Trails Mark III 2-3 Person Tent:

I wanted to like this tent. It's very light and easy to set up. It held water out very well in a significant thunderstorm. However, after the first two nights of use in the Smokies, the grommets began detaching from the fabric. This feature of the tent is underdesigned.

Definitely not a 3-person tent. I found it comfortable for use by myself (6'+, 200lb+ man).

I have returned this tent to campmor.

Comments about Appy Trails Mark III 2-3 Person Tent:

After handing off my Mark V--bigger than I need, I immediately bought the Mark III. After about 45 years of preferring my army poncho over any tent I've found, this is a product that is better than a poncho hooch.
Whether sleeping in a deer bed-down in the forest or surviving a sudden snowstorm up in a talus field this tent has the shaped versatility to adapt to any situation (carry bungee cords above timberline, of course).
(Coordination w/ the maker assured me that future versions will include an apex loop so that you can immediately suspend the tent from a tree, without inventing loops threaded through the pole hole.)

I used this tent on the AT in August. It was easy to setup and was sturdy in high winds. In rain it was fine, but you need a large enough ground tarp. The weight is great for backpacking. There isn't a bug screen, so don't expect one.

This is a great shelter for those nights you can't make it into a shelter.

Comments about Appy Trails Mark III 2-3 Person Tent:

Just got back from a 3 night trip in the Wyoming Wind River Mountains. High winds were almost constant. The tent held up really well. Sides flapped a lot, because I did not ever seem to be able to get them tight. Also, had a lot of debris blow in under the edges. All in all, however, the tent is a great deal if you are looking at something super lightweight and compact. For a solo, it has tons of room in it. Don't try it with two people unless you want to be real close.

This is a specialty light weight shelter without a floor. There is little ventilation. In very high dew points condensation build up will happen.

The coating on the material is 1000 mm which is a good coating for a fly like this. As for the ground you may want to sleep in a bivy to prevent soaked ground from wetting your pad and sleeping bag.
