Comments about MSR Whisperlite Shaker Stove: I have backpacked with a whisperlite for more than 20 years on the same stove. My international version has been used to burn petrol, diesel, white gas, dry cleaning fluid, and kerosene. White gas and dry cleaning fluid are the cleanest, but all work well. The stove is powerful and simple to maintain if you can read directions. A small bottle of fuel will last 3 days for two people. Add fuel allowance if you are at altitude. I have used this stove successfully in temperatures down to -10F and at altitudes up to 18000 feet without difficulty. Nothing cooks as well at altitude on any stove, but this stove puts out the energy just fine. Works great in high wind conditions as well. For an avid backpacker who does not want to break the bank, and hopes to get years of use, this is highly recommended.

Comments about MSR Whisperlite Shaker Stove: So from my understanding this is a classic model and I can understand why it has been around for so many years. It's compact, lightweight, powerful (relatively), stable and very very durable. People have these stoves for years and years without problems. The only downside is that it has no method of controlling the temperature. The stove is either on or off no in-between unlike other MSR stoves that are larger and more expensive but have temperature control. Another downside, I feel, is the priming stage of lighting. Other MSR stoves (ones that use iso fuel) can be lit on demand and start cooking right away while this stove (and other white gas stoves) has a 30 second priming stage or warming stage in which there can be no cooking.

Comments about MSR Whisperlite Shaker Stove: Used the Whisperlite stove on a recent trip above 9000ft. Boiled water, but also cooked potatoes, bacon and eggs with it. You heard right, we packed it in and cooked it two days in a row. I had a previous Whisperlite, but the new stove with the control valve is awesome. Also the fact that when pumping the tank to pressurize it you don't have to lock it like the old ones. Highly recomend!!!

Comments about MSR Whisperlite Shaker Stove: This is the second Whisperlite that I've owned. The first lasted twenty plus years before my truck was broken into and most of my gear, including the Whisperlite, was stolen (hence the replacement). I never had a bad experience with this amazingly well-built and conceived little unit. Highly recommended for the backpacker or camper who is concerned about weight.

Comments about MSR Whisperlite Shaker Stove: Great little stove. As others have stated there is a delay in the temperature control, but not hard to deal with once you're used to it. I've had it for 15 years and it still works great!

Comments about MSR Whisperlite Shaker Stove: There is a slight delay between the time you adjust the fuel control valve and the amount of heat. It can simmer but takes a minute or so to get adjusted.
