The Katadyn is a mechanical, ceramic micro filter and uses no chemicals (healthier). Filters down to 0.2 microns (will remove all giardia, fungi, parasites, etc.) Built in pump produces about a quart a minute. Zippered carrying pouch included.

Comments about Katadyn Pocket Water Filter: Will be taking this one to Egypt with me, so I can relax knowing my water will be totaly safe and with good taste. Put a coffee filter over the pre filter screen, used the carbon filter on one of my nalgene's for the flavor and low and behold...I drank the water from my cousin's 10 gal. fish tank that held 2 turtle's...folk's ...it does not get any better than this....thirteen thousand gal's.? geeze. Some what a hefty price but look at it this way...you will only buy one water system and NEVER have to buy another. This system will be going with me on my second thru hike on the AT trail (first one=S-N, this time N-S, absolutely worth the extra weight and a very large worry off of my shoulder's.

It is difficult to get into a regular pocket but fits neatly into a backpack. It is well made and should be durable. Keep an eye on your input and output port caps as they tend to shoot off when your not looking.

Best Uses Comments about Katadyn Pocket Water Filter: Relatively heavy for a filter but lighter than having to carry liters of water. Used this on overnight hike up Mt. Whitney and it worked great in streams and lakes along the way. During a very rough hike the year before, a friend's Katadyn was the only thing standing between me and dangerous dehydration. Durability, effectiveness, compact size, ease of use and simple maintenance of this filter make it a must.

My freinds and I go to a lot of remote places so having a reliable and durable water filter system is a must. The water was clean and great tasting. It's a must have for any serious outdoor person.

The Katadyn Pocket filter will get the same pathogens out of the water as the Hiker. The difference is that the hiker has activated charcoal, which will help remove some chemical contamination.
