    Comments about Eureka Spitfire Tent:

Great little tent! I've used it around a dozen times so far, in Colorado, Black Hills SD, Perry Wildlife KS, Lanesboro MN, and the Great Lakes area. Never got wet, or blown over yet. Easy and fast to setup. Requires at least 2 stakes, one at head and foot, as its NOT free standing! The aluminum tent poles (2) are sturdy and click together with a satisfying SNAP when held by the middle section and and turned (just try it!).

Not much room for gear but I did manage keep a medium size duffle, mc helmet and jacket with me inside. I was practically laying on some of it! It helps that the thermarest trekker is narrow. But, this is a 1 person tent, so this is to be expected.

I am 6'3" 260lb and I must admit the my feet do touch the tent if I lay on my back. I have big feet (size 14) and use a thermarest trekker air mat. I flip-flop a lot and sleep on my side quite a bit and have adjusted ok. But, if you are over 6 foot and can't sleep on your side, you might want to consider another tent.

Lastly, I am able to sit up inside the tent, a very nice feature for such a small and light tent. It has a tall side entry door, (no crawling on hands and knees to get in and dragging in mud/grass/skunks into the sleeping area). Its a step-down-into kind of entry. I found I could back in and sit down keeping my feet outside the tent to take my boots off and keep the mud outside. My boots (size 14 remember) *juuust* fit in the vestibule.

Ok, enough of this! Carry on and enjoy! ^__^

      Comments about Eureka Spitfire Tent:

This is a great tent for solo backpacking, comfortable yet lightweight. It's kept me dry through harsh thunderstorms (though I would recommend getting the footprint to go along with it). I really like that the rain fly easily clips on and off which makes it easy to put up in a hurry if you find yourself suddenly getting rained on.

The stakes that come with it are a little flimsy (two of mine bent after trying to get them into hard soil) so you may want to get some heavy-duty aluminum ones if you're planning on camping in rocky areas. Other than that this is a great little tent, especially for the price!

much to short and not tall enough at the feet or head. I'm only 5'9-1/2", but i was cramped with my toes hitting the ceiling and my head pushed all the way before also hitting the ceiling. A normal sized foam pad or Thermarest pad cannot fit without folding the corners. I would not recommend for anyone taller than 5'5".

          Comments about Eureka Spitfire Tent:

I've been working on reducing my pack weight and this tent looked like just the ticket.
It's really not much smaller than my old 2 person Sierra tent( I'll save that for car camping), and it's super easy to set up.
It was quite stable and roomy- but I am 5' tall. I didn't need to use the vestibule, since I was able to fit all my gear in the tent.
By the way , the tent weight is calculated without the stakes. I plan on picking up four titanium stakes to lighten the load.
In all this seems to to be the best lightweight tent on the market for the price.

            Comments about Eureka Spitfire Tent:

I bought this for a weekong backcountry trek in Yellowstone. I had previously used a 2-person tent so studied the options pretty thoroughly. This one met all my hopes: under 3 lbs, headroom to sit up to put on contact lenses, etc, long enough for me (6 foot) with about 6 more inches at the foot and at the head area), no condensation, simple and quick to put up. There is some additional small space at the mid-tent level (the footprint is kind of diamond shaped) for a few things, but keep in mind this IS a one-person tent so most of your stuff will be in your pack outside, hung on a bear pole (if you are in Yellowstone and the like) etc. The air flow could become a problem under certain conditions (heavy rain in a humid environment) because you would have to close down the door flap; but that should be rare and at all other times the air flow is great because the door flap opens wide and the tent walls and roof are almost all lightweight screen. Side entry is a must (versus the tube-design which is a oain to enter and exit and mummifies you immediately upon entry). Would definitely buy this one again.

Used backpacking on AT for one week. Light and inexpensive, tent is a breeze to put up / take down especially for a non-free standing design. Didn't experience rain but if seams are taped correctly, I expect no issue due to excellent design and construction. Side entry makes for easy entry / exit.

This tent is perfect for me. I'm 6'3 and I can (barely) stretch out in this sucker. There isn't much extra room, but I can stay in the tent and roll up my sleeping bag and mat without having to get out or unzip the door. I've been caught in a tropical storm in Florida in this tent and stayed perfectly dry, although my shoes in the vestibule got soaked. As for not being stand alone, I've had it in the desert and simply tied it off around rocks when on hard ground. I always sleep with the top off on clear nights because the night sky is highly visible through the mesh. I liked this tent so much, the reason I'm on here is to buy the 2-man version for when my girlfriend comes with.

hi Whats the weight of the tent inc stakes etc. The specs say 2 lbs 2 oz. This suggests it might not hold up to the rigors and rot of a 5 month AT stroll.

The pack wt is 3 lb 4 oz. poles and stakes included. One thing to consider is that on your AT hike you will be using the tent along with shelters so it will not be used every day.

You are correct, the diagram on the Campmor site is for the 2-man tent. You can see the correct diagram on the Eureka site: http://store.eurekatent.com/spitfire-1-tent

The Spitfire is definitely a one-person tent. Two people would not fit in it.

By the way, this is hands down the best tent I have ever owned. I LOVE my tent!! It is really light and really comfortable and you can really sit up in it, which makes a huge difference, especially if it's pouring rain for days. The vestibule isn't quite big enough for a full pack, but I usually suspend my pack in a garbage bag anyway, and there is plenty of room for boots and other stuff. I'd advise anyone under 6'5" who needs a one-person tent to get this tent.
