Comments about Danner Men's Mountain Light II Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

I bought these boots to replace a different model of the same brand and read numerous positive reviews on several similar sites. These boots are pricey. They are a good value for the money, due to the heavy leather and solid Vibram deep tread. I have only worn them about 50-60 miles in a variety of pavement/dirt conditions in the Middle East. I don't work for this company or any type of boot/shoe manufacturer. These feel really wide for a D width and even with a thick wool sock, the fit is sloppy. I try to buy American made products, but have ordered an Italian manufacturer top of the line boot to compare and contrast the feel and fit. I take very good care of my boots and they normally last several years. I have certainly worn other brands' boots that are more comfortable. I would recommend them to a friend; if they were under 200 and the retailer has a solid and fair exchange program like Campmor. Honestly, I am on the fence whether to recommend them or not. They will need about 50 more miles to feel well broken in. (Praying).

Comments about Danner Men's Mountain Light II Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

This is a tank of a boot. It takes some time to break in and it is not as light as the foam shoes out there these days, and it requires maintenance, but it is indestructible. . .

I have had two pairs of these and they haven't changed much from 1992 until now.

I would have had only had one pair, if someone didn't steal my first pair.

This is a long haul shoe, or maybe more appropriately a mountaineering/backpacking boot, not something you would want to play soccer in.

This is the thickest leather I have ever seen on a shoe, as thick as a belt.

If you are only going to purchase a single boot for all of our wilderness activities, this should not be it.

If you fall into the club of having three levels of outdoor shoes and if two of them fit the categories such as of a glorified tennis shoe (made with brown, gray and black materials), and a light hiker, this should be your third set. It will outlast five sets of tennis shoes and three quality light hikers. . .

. . .After you climb a medium sized mountain with this shoe, it is worthy of being bronzed. . .

FYI these pics are my second pair, from when the boots were about 6 or 7 years old. . .

Great boots and have lots of ankle support that I need. I also have a narrow foot and good narrow boots are hard to find. They can be resoled! and they're made in the USA!!! They are rather expenseive however but I feel you get your money's worth with these.

Too stiff to wear

Comments about Danner Men's Mountain Light II Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

These boots were outrageously stiff and uncomfortable when I got them. I walked in them for literally 300 yards down the road from my house when I first got them (wearing hiking socks) and was in pain with blisters on my right ankle and left heel for the last 100 yards of the return. I have never experienced anything like this with any shoes or boots I have ever had before in my life, and I am 52. I believe they are the correct size but just crazy stiff! I have not given up on them and have kneaded them with my hands to soften them, have looked up some "tight shoe" techniques on the net to loosen them, and have bought some REALLY thick socks to wear with them when my feet heal (the raw spot on the ankle has been pesky!).

I like the way the boots look and think their rigidity will be good when/if I can break them in and wear them. At this point breaking the dang things in is a matter of pride!

I hike fire roads and trails daily. I got these to replace another brand that wore out too quickly. The size ran true and the fit was fine. They were broken in on one short hike. Yeah, they were a lot of money, but I believe they were still a good value.

Comments about Danner Men's Mountain Light II Mid Weight Hiking Boot:

Quality shoes! A very unique design that can take some time to get use to. I had a fold on the side of the tongue on my right shoe that created a very uncomfortable knot, but after a few days of rolling it out to where it had to be, the shoe felt great. They also took some time to break in around the top, but I won't complain about ankle support, no one likes rolled ankles. The vibram sole makes me feel very sure footed on slippery wet/snowy/muddy hills, and can be replaced when worn out because it's sewn on (no one likes glue either). The eyelets that go all the way down the toe pull the shoe snug to my foot for a very nice fit (blisters are bad! burgerfoot sucks!). & the combination of the tongue design & the gore-tex lining keep my feet dry, except from the sweat (change socks often). Aside from their practicality, these shoes also look pretty good when they're all cleaned up.

The plastic wedge arch spport is nice, but you'll need an insole to keep the edge from causing a callous. There's not much vertical space for an insole, so find a thin set!

I had to exchange these due to the severity of the ankle bite issue. They're sending me Danner Light II's in the same size/width. I'll review those when I get them. The Mountain Light II's are awesome boots that fit perfectly in every other way. I really wanted them to work out, but can't commit to such a difficult break-in. Buy these only after trying them on first! The Light II sits higher on the ankle, so fingers crossed...

Great shoes, I can wear them out to the bar or to work or just around town. They are waterproof so I don't have to worry about that. My feet do not sweat in them as well, so I'm good there. These are great boots and since they are Danner's I can get them rebuilt when they wear out. I'm super happy with this purchase.
