Comments about Log House Designs Bicycle Cape:

I bought this to ride as the stocker position on a recumbent tandium. I made a few modifications to better cover me in that position. However on a rainy day all parts of the cape that had direct contact with my clothes just wicked the water through onto me. My shirt was soaked and my shorts were dry

Comments about Log House Designs Bicycle Cape:

Just rode to work in a storm and I was nicely dry. The hood kept my head dry and my glasses too. The cape covered me well. The leg loops minimized the spray from the rear wheel but a fender is still a good idea. I wore a backpack underneath it and had no problems. I'm going to seal the seams as others mentioned, just seems to be a good idea. It folds up well afterwards for storage.

The cape works well for biking and walking. It covers a back pack and does not blow around too much in the wind. Great for biking as there is lots of ventilation so you don't get wet from sweat.

Comments about Log House Designs Bicycle Cape:

These things have a 3 year life span before becoming unusable. I like the design very much but after using for 2 years, the waterproof coating on the inside of the nylon began to break down. Same thing happened with my wife's cape (I bought 2 at the same time), so it wasn't just a fluke. By the end of 3 years of use, the fabric was sticking to my clothing, my skin, and to itself like chewing gum, and was at first unpleasant to use, and finally impossible to unstick, and we had to throw them away. Maybe if I'd not kept it rolled up when not in use, the constant air contact may have stopped the chemical change. Or if I'd applied talc or something to the coating, I may have been able to keep the stickiness down. But in the end, I deem it an inferior product, until they work out a new way to waterproof their nylon.

Comments about Log House Designs Bicycle Cape:

              Pros:
              - This is hands-down my favorite piece of rain gear for the bike ever. For my commute and "fun" rides, it eliminates the sauna effect better than any rain jacket I've tried. I knew I was on the right track when the package arrived looking like it was unchanged in many years, with a photo of a guy with centerpull calipers and non-aero brakes on his bike.

              - Generous sizing. I'm not a small dude, and I can wear it and still fit a medium mess bag underneath.

              - The bright yellow color stands out in low-vis conditions.

              - Packs into a small bag.

              - Thumb loops are nice.

              - Great value, and well-made.

              - Allows layering underneath.

              - Hood keeps the back of your neck dry.

              That said, a few cons:
              - Nobody would mistake this for stylish, but then again, you're riding a bicycle in the rain.

              - Unlike a jacket, any rain cape pretty much requires your bike to have full fenders. If you don't have decent fenders, you will be dry from above, but wet from below.

              - Any rain cape has more wind resistance than a jacket, but in my experience, the other advantages far outweigh this issue.

              - Very polite cyclists will find it difficult to signal effectively.

              - Could use a loop for a rear blinky light.

              - (small gripe) Like the others said, the leg straps are a little awkward, but they also greatly boost the performance. It's not a big deal, and hey, you're smart, you can figure out a workaround.

              - (other small gripe) It fits into a stuff sack, but unlike modern packable gear, that stuff sack is not attached to the garment and is easily lost. Not a big deal, but there it is.

              Bottom line:
              - Seriously, it's cost-effect, folds into a small-ish sack, and does exactly what it's supposed to do. If you're even considering it, get it.

Comments about Log House Designs Bicycle Cape:

Wore it while cycling 80 wet miles. Stayed dry from light rain for six hours. Damp clothing from light sweating. Seams were sealed in advance with warnings from other user's comments here, thanks for contributing!. Water pooled on cape draped over thighs and was challenging to "drain" it off. I could not see the mirror attached to the end of the drop bar. Due to the necessary cape draping over my dry thighs, I cannot see what gears I was using. I like the bright yellow visibility color. It is now a necessary part of my randonneuring kit.

Comments about Log House Designs Bicycle Cape:

I commute in NYC daily, and this cape has completely cured me of the the "it might rain, I'll take the subway" blues. It is small, light, and keeps the rain off me fine. The only problem is that it still holds in some heat, so while your bottom half will be dry, your top half might still be sweaty in hot weather. I'm sure this is less of a problem once summer passes.

The only structural issues are that the hood does not fit over a helmet, and the loops seem a little flimsy, but for the price, you can't beat it.

Comments about Log House Designs Bicycle Cape:

I used my new cape immediately on a cycling trip that included several thunderstorms. I agree with other commenters that the seams should be sealed to maximize waterproofness. That said, one of the storms was long and heavy and the cape kept me from getting completely soaked--better than a jacket could have. So far, I haven't experienced the "sticky" material issue that others report. The cape's leg straps are awkward to get into, but they do hold the back down effectively. The front-end thumb loops worked OK. There's a tendency (common to bike capes, I think) for the cape to form a "bowl" behind the handlebars in which water accumulates. As long as the front edge of the cape stays ahead of the bars (where the thumb loops are designed to keep it) the "bowl" will not drop its contents on your legs and feet--if anything, the extra weight helps hold the cape down in the front. If the accumulated water becomes a nuisance, you can flip it off on your downwind side without getting splashed. The bright yellow "tweety-bird" look is a bit silly but it's great if you get caught out on the road in a storm and need to be very visible. I didn't buy the overboots, but I probably will now.

The length of the cape is 30" from the hood to the bottom hem. If your pack has alot of gear in there and is packed out, then this will push the cape out where it may not reach your hips.
