Comments about Equinox 10 ft. x 12 ft. Ultralight Backpacking Tarp:

Tarp is large and very light weight. I use it for a winter shelter. So far, very pleased. It replaced one I had for years that finally gave out. I expect this one to last a long time too.

We bought two in 2004 for Philmont 11 day treks. Used them on 3 treks and over and over at home training crews to go. Still in original condition. Bought 6 more to train adult Scout leaders how to prepare for Philmont.
Big enough to get 12 backpacker under during rain or hail.
Weighs 2.2 lb with cords, stakes & stuff sacks.

This is the 3rd Equinox tarp we have bought. We also have their ponchos. Equinox makes quality products. We bought this for tarp camping, but now use it as a cover for hammock camping while backpacking or camping in a campground. It's lightweight and strong for our purposes.

I bought this ultralight for dual purposes, for hiking and kayaking. For hiking, this is a no-brainer. Its lightweight and strong. For touring kayaking, this is also the way to go since when you're on the river for multiple days / weeks, weight matters.

I just finished 15 days on the Yukon River in northern canada, and used this twice.

It was the crew tarp for a 110 mile Philmont "super strenuous" trek.

Although I have not yet used it, the tarp is lightweight enough for backpacking and appears tough enough for much repeated use for general camping. I also appreciate that it is US made.

This back packing tarp is exactly what I was looking for. It's light weigh and strong, made of nylon ripstop material, it's also waterproof due to silicone treatment. These tarps are excellent shelters for anyone who doesn't want to carry a tent. With a little para cord you can rig up shade from the sun and protection from the rain. Roll up in it for a quick shelter from a storm. Gather the opposite ends and with a few wraps of para cord, you can rig up a decent hammock or use it to collect rain water. It's one of the most useful pieces of equipment that I carry.

Comments about Equinox 10 ft. x 12 ft. Ultralight Backpacking Tarp:

The material is a bit too thin for this size. The stretching is very noticeable.
This is one of many Equinox products I purchased in my pursuit for ultralight backpacking, including other tarps, a bivy, netting etc... They all seem to have one thing in common. The person sewing these things together must be drunk. I can find flaws in all of them. The bivy especially was awful, started falling apart after one use. The materials themselves seem OK, but they are put together badly. I don't get how these could be charged premium prices. I highly recommend getting something stronger and better made even if a little heavier.

The ultralight backpacking tarp would not be durable in harsh UV environments like the southwest it the tarp was setup and not taken down each day. Long term exposure to UV rays will degrade this tarp. As for wind- I would pitch in a wind break area. Direct heavy wind stress will not be the best for this tarp.
